I am torn between a Merkur Futur or a EJ89L it will be my first DE razor and want a good one but don't want to waste money either and for soap looking at Porrosso you guys have any other suggestions thanks.

I'd suggest the Progress. It is a great razor. It is ajustable, new, cost less than the other new ajustable, and can be set to a very mild shave or a pretty darn agressive one Heck it is probably my favorite Razor out of the few I have..

+1. I own others but the long handled Progress is my favorite, delivers an amazing shave.

Oh, just get the Futur. Buy quality and you only cry once.

As I point out in This Thread the real money savings with DE is so big, upwards of a dollar-per-day, that even high-end equipment pays for itself in a matter of months. You might as well just get the one you know you want.

I started with a Merkur 180 long handle and then upgraded to the Futur. I thought the 180 was the bees knees but something about the weight of the Futur and the angle, and of course the adjustability made me fall in love with DE shaving all over again.

I shave with Proraso and it's been great. I've only ever used a Burt's Bees product otherwise and I like the Proraso better.

Another vote for the Futur. From the reviews I read, and from people on here that have multiple razors, everybody seems to like the Futur the best, and always fall back onto that razor. I bought the Futur for my first, and I like it, and I'm glad I spent the extra money to get it. I didn't want to buy a cheaper razor now, then 6 months down the road want to upgrade. I'm not saying the other ones are bad, just saying if you're going to spend the money, buy the good one and spend it once.

I've only recently taken my DE shaving path.
When I was taking a look around and deciding which razor to get, I was gifted a Futur (turned out my father had it unused in a box - he barely remembered about it). So, I didn't pay for it, I just took it, and followed the inputs I got over here. I know it's more expensive than other models, but honestly, I don't see myself changing it for a very long tim. Since, as Gollnick remarked, DE shaving is a great way to save money (from the very first shave), I suggest that you just choose the razor you like. You will be saving money anyway. I would get a Futur too.
