What SEALs carry.

I think that seals might use more customs than others but I don't think they buy froma specific maker.

I know my brother was in the army and his unit was running some rear guard for the a Seal unit in the Afghanistan and he noticed some were just using regular production knives like SOGs, Tops...ect. He also saw several that had customs that he couldn't ID.

Navy SEALs carry one another. Through Hell and high water.

I won't say that "article" wasn't somewhat interesting but it is from aol.com (not very regarded for journalism) and nearly every image was taken from DVIDS (Defense Video & Imagery Distribution System) or YouTube (not really a legitimate source for an article).

Also, not sure what credentials the authors have, but I'd be hesitant to trust anyone without direct Navy SEAL involvement on the subject.

There are certainly more accurate and thorough sources of information on the subject.

True on all counts. I think the author of the article read the guy's book and posted the info from the book.

As the authors of the article say, the list is taken from the book "No Easy Day," written by "....Matt Bissonette, a SEAL that was on the Bin Laden raid..."

That said, anything that or anybody who tells me what knives SEALs, or Rangers, or Jedis or etc etc etc use...I usually take with a grain of salt.

I'll take that one further... just because you hear it from a SEAL, Ranger, Green beret or sniper doesn't make it gospel. I've known many special forces members in my life from a lot of countries and a lot of units, and one thing a lot of them have in common is that they're not automatically knife experts because of their trade. some are granted, but that's not always the case and you can't assume they know what they are talking about because they have earned this or that and they carry a knife on their rig.

I like this post a lot. You win an Internet.

Seals, other spec forces and grunts alike, vary. Just like civilians some are knife guys and some aren't. One may be carrying a $400 custom, another a $50 production knife and another no knife at all. Anything else is just marketing BS. The exception to this is when a whole team decides to get the same knife for uniformity, gifts, superstition, or just cuz it's cool.

True Statement, I'll say what I said in another thread most are normal guys with somewhat kind of normal lives, most have families etc. A knife is a tool to them, some do know their stuff others don't, I can tell you this I've never hear a SpecOps soldier say check out my new blade it's s90v, or (insert super steel here), you will hear, man this knife right here is tough as hell I did(insert abuse here) and it took it like a champ. Most of the time they carry what they are issued, having a 400-500 dollar knife is good in all until you reach in your pocket to cut something and that dreaded "damn it , I lost my knife happens". You'd be surprised how many knives are somewhere in Iraq or the Stan. Because of that, The idea of carrying a super expensive knife is kind of a waste, unless it was issued.

While this is true, it doesn't keep people from asking!

Of course! Let's face it. SEALs, Rangers, etc are way more awesome than any of us will ever be, and we all want a little part of that awesomeness...maybe by having the same knife they have.

But they don't really have "a knife." But one would be nuts to not take advantage of that want in one's knife marketing.

just buy whatever blows your skirt up and is affordable for you, and stop trying to be a weekend warrior. that is all. :D

Cant say anything much better than this. Fully agree.
