OK, we all know a blunt tool is pretty useless, even more so when your in a survival situation. Therefore its pretty important to have some way of sharpening your knife/axe etc. when your on an extended outing to the great outdoors.

What type of sharpener do you carry in your pack and why?

Tony.

Have been useing the DMT brand for many year's .Need no water or oil to use, the handle fold's up to cover Diamond mesh, light weight. I have a little PSK pouch mounted on my TAK sheath and the DMT coarse Mini-Sharp fit's in with no problem. On my other fixed blade sheath's with no pouch, I've put a section of bike inner tube over the lower sheath[ this gem gleaned from Pict's post from Brasil]again no problem. The coarse mesh DMT does a faster job in the field and the handle let's you do the job without Nicking yourself:) :http://eknifeworks.com/webapp/eCommerce/index.html

I carry a Eze-Lap diamond rod in the pouch on my sheath. I also carry a firestarter from the World Survival Institute called the P-60C. It's a firesteel, magnesium rod and a 4" long ceramic rod all mounted to a hardwood base in a really compact device. Between the diamond rod and the ceramic rod on the firestarter, I have all the bases covered.

Hey guys!
I use a Lansky "Fold A Vee". It is basically a med grit crock stick that folds up into itself. It's a tad bulky, but being made of Lexan, it is very light weight and strong. These things are perfect for field sharpening. If you aren't familiar with them, they're shown on my website: www.brommelandgunleather.con in the Lansky section.
(That's not a sales pitch - it's just the only place that I know where to direct you to see a picture of them.)

Depend the knife I have.

With my CS Recon scout, I've glued on the back of the sheath the diamond sharpener that figured on the back of the Gerber BMF sheath.
If it's the puukko or another one, I have one small arkansas stone (white color). Both, are giving me exellent result.
For a razor edge I ended the sharpening with my lether belt.

See you

P60C It does two jobs, and does them well.

A crummy little generic sharpening stone, I had laying around. I use it on my SAK. The Sebenza gets sharpened before I leave home, and the Sharpmaker is then left at home.

A dollar bill sized sheet of 320 grit sandpaper, in my wallet.
Thanx to Ed Fowler.
:D
