Hello fellow Hinderer fans :)

After much agony, I have finally managed to acquire a 3.5" Flipperer. My first attempt resulted in the non-Flip version being seized by Customs and subsequently destroyed . The knife has pretty much lived up to my high expectations. I've managed to successfully centre the blade, thanks to some of the threads that I've read on here. The only problem with the knife is that I have a loose thumbstud. It's so loose that I am able to push the thumbstud out with my thumb. It's a good thing that it's a flipperer version because the loose thumbstud rules out operating it in that fashion. I have ordered another thumbstud and hopefully the replacement will be a bit bigger.

This is my first high end knife and I am a Newbie to quality knives in general. As such, I am looking for a sharpening system suitable for my 3.5" XM. I don't really know where to start or what features I should even look for, and I don't really have a budget in mind. I have done a cursory search but I haven't found any info regarding a sharpening system specific for the XM. What do you guys use and what are its pros and cons ? What's the standard sharpening angle of the XM ? Mine has the Spanto CTS-XHP blade just in case that will make a difference to your recommendations. Any advice and links to online dealers will be most welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Belstaff.

I use a WickedEdge system set at 18* per side, I think Rick grinds theese somewhere around 20ish per side.

Congrats on scoring your first, well second XM. I'd like to see a Video of them trying to destroy the first one.

Here is my setup, very easy to use. Idiot proof, ask me how I know.:D

Thanks Atony.

How much can I expect to pay for this system and where's the best place to buy it from that delivers to Australia ? What are its cons ?

I think someone in customs kept it. That would not be an easy folder to destroy. You should also look into the Edge Pro Apex. Google it to find more info on availability in your area.

You gotta know those thieves in customs are rocking some of the best knives, sitting on loads of gold/silver bullion, and anything else that is of high value or demand in the target country. I loathe crooked govt. employees...arrgh!

BTW, I can get "near" edge pro results with a DMT magna- guide and all of their available diafolds, then stropping. Cheap but crazy effective, once you get the hang of it.

I'm not highly skilled at sharpening but I have found the DMT alignment sharpening system to work fine on my Hinderer and CRKs.

Thanks for the inputs.

I'm looking at the Wicked Edge system. Can anyone recommend a dealer that has competitive prices and ships to Australia ? I checked the dealer page in the Wicked Edge website but there are no links. There's even an Australian dealer but no way of contacting him. I tried Google but I came up empty.

atony - dang that's a nice edge on your XM-18. I am going to take a closer look at the wicked sharp system. I've been using Lansky and it's pretty good but I'm looking at upgrading to all diamond and the real fine stones. I'm now thinking of spending a few extra bucks an getting a Wicked Sharp setup. Thanks for the info and pics.

Did you check with W.E. directly? They were offering a 20% discount just last week when I ordered mine.
