What sheaths do you have for your Battle Mistresses?

The reason why I am asking is because I just recently scored a MOFBM from Swoopmaster (Jeff) and need to get a sheath for this beauty.

I've had the pleasure of owning a FBM (Saber grind) with a MikeyMoto leather sheath for about a week before I had to sell it due to car problems. :thumbdn: But carrying around the FBM in that heavy-duty leather sheath was extremely heavy. More than I thought it would be.

I want to know what you guys think about BM sheaths and why you prefer what you do, because I want to make an educated decision about my sheath purchase. I hear Kydex is good, but it scratches the blade. Kydex feels "cheap" to me, but since I live in the rainy Pacific Northwest a Kydex sheath might be the best bet. Leather is so nice, but heavy and retains water. A nylon sheath would be cheaper and lighter, but holds water too. I am planning on using it deepwoods backpacking, camping, etc. so weight is my main consideration.

What are your thoughts and what do you guys use? Thanks!

Buy Brown or Mash Cat for Kydex, they are light weight. :)

Congrats on the MO FBM, one of my favorites.:thumbup:

I had one of these ( http://www.semperparatustactical.com/products/sheaths.html), when I had my FBMLE. Good sheath for the PNW, I liked it well enough.

Strangely enough, I have a Leather Dangler for my CG FBM now. I like the Danglers. But like you I worry about the leather soaking up the rain, from the Pacific NW Rain Forests. But was told by a custom maker that it's really not a big concern with custom sheaths. I havn't tested that out yet though. :)

I'd say go with kydex too, beings you live in a rainy type area anyway. Your knife is going to get scratched up more from chopping and hacking on stuff, Than just going in and out of your sheath i would think. Then if you ever wanted to make it look new again, you could just send it to the spa. Kydex might look cheap but its some tough stuff, waterproof and lightweight. ;)

I've got a kydex sheath for my FFBM from Okuden, it is a tank, compliments the FFBM very well!!

My CGFBM rides in a simple large sheath I got from Scrap Yard knives. It gets little belt time and if I bring it on an extended outing it rides in my pack so it works for me.

Good luck.

I'd recommend kydex for the Northwest. It has worked well for me so far and I live in the greater Portland area. Check out Brian at Okuden (http://okuden.net/products/index.htm), David at BuyBrown Holsters (http://www.buybrownholsters.com/pricing_info.htm). Dan at Semper Paratus Tactical does awesome kydex-lined nylon sheaths with huge gear pouches on them. The FBMLE I got from trukreltrog came with a sheath from Dan and it is one of my favorite sheaths.

Mashed cat, awesome kydex.
Steelnut, awesome kydex
Buy Brown, awesome kydex.

Those are the only ones I have experience with thus far.

I really like the open spine designs BB and steelnut use, I don't know if MC has that option or not.

All the makers listed by the guys above are good so you can't go wrong with any of their kydex.

Kind of parroting what has been said before but I'll add that you might want to go with Buy Brown for the weather you have. The blade is going to get wet and the sheath will get wet also. My thinking is if you get an exposed spine sheath it will be:

1) Lighter
2) Easier to clean out
3) Faster drying

This should allow you to minimize chances of rust and scratches to your blade. Just my thoughts.

Excellent! Thanks for the info. I agree that sounds like the best option. Thanks so much!

For fast and Sleek kydex, tough to beat BuyBrown, think Speedo for knives.

For Strong and secure, I think Okuden is the best on the planet.(think Robust)

While I have several others, these are my go to Guys for Kydex.

If you want to keep the knife secure while jumping out of an aircraft, or tumbling down a scree, go with Okuden.

If you want to get it out of the sheath really fast and want the lightest sheath possible go with BuyBrown.

The Buy Brown usually comes with a hole for locking the blade through a talon hole.

thanks everybody.

Also FYI I do have my "Armor" kydex 1/8" thick stuff if you want robust :D

Good info for sure! The thing that concerns me about BuyBrown sheaths then is that if you have paracord in that specific hole then it defeats the purpose wouldn't it? I think I might go for Okuden after all. I'd rather have it extra-secure. I can learn to remove it from the sheath fast. ;)

a perfectly suitable cheapo beater from ScrapYard.

it'll do until I decide upon something nicer or custom.

thanks everybody.

Ah! I didn't realize you where here Mr. Brown. If one has paracord in the holes of his Busse, wouldn't that hinder securing the blade in the sheath? I'm curious.
