O.K., if you folks were going to the show and had...(drum roll)...$130 dollars to spend, what would you buy? I know that's not much of a budget, but so far I've kept each of my purchases to below $50 (M16, Mirage, Case Mini trapper, Native, Titan, etc.).

Cheers!

Personally, I'd walk over to the "Wicked Knife Company" booth. Their not pretty, but Newt makes good carry/working knives.

I'd check out Murray Carter, he is a young fellow just got his Master Smith last show, Japanese influence, nice kitchen type knives and some hunting knives.....Paul Davidson got one last year and I wish I had enough forsight to pick one up then. But at least make a point of meeting him, very nice fellow and his knives are keen to say the least.

Unfortunately I won't be able to go, but I'd say buy something there that you won't be able to find anywhere else.

You ought to be able to find a nice small custom for that price. If Geno Demming is there, look him up. He makes the best quality knives there are for about that price. If he's not there, I think Les Robertson sells his knives. Just enjoy the window shopping and knife talk. It's a good time.

Use the money to find a good looking young lady of questionable morals and send her Tim Hermans way. Then tell him how much you'd like one of his knives....

Gaknife is right. There are lots of smaller knives to be had in that price range. I went to the '95(?) Orlando Blade Show and had about the same money you have to spend and I had a horrendous time trying to decide. I ended up with a serial numbered chain saw Damascus drop point from Corbin Newcomb for $100.00. I am still very pleased with this purchase. It is a knife that I cherish to this day.

Jaybird, I agree with medusaoblongata and Murray Carter is one that you won't find anyplace else, plus he lives in Japan and getting one of his knives can be kinda tough. So at least checkem' out.

As far as checking all the tables, man I tried that and starting getting dizzy at all the options and knives and people and knives and more knives and people and ahhhhhhhh, had to sit down and work up a schedule of those makers I wanted to see and try not to miss, and I still missed so many!!! after I got home I did a Homer Simpson, DOOH! because of the ones I missed getting a chance to talk to and meet.

So make a plan, take the layout they give you when you go in, highlight those places you want to visit, and check them off as you go there. Wish I could go again!

Thanks folks. I appreciate the advice! What I'm seeing is that I should go for something special (i.e. non-production). Sounds good!

Look around and see what there is to see. My guess is that something you never thought of will call your name.

Jaybird,
You may luck out and get a custom made knife for free. Blade Show is helping 10 knifemakers to each give away a custom knife. From what I understand they will give a card to you at the front door. It will have 10 letters on it. You get a stamp to match each letter at each of these 10 makers tables. After you get all ten stamps you return the card. You are then entered into a drawing to win a free knife from one of those makers. I don't know what all makers are participating this year. I know that I am one of them though. Good luck. Hope to see you at the show.
