Hello. I got a balisong a few weeks ago and was then informed that it is a piece of crap that will probably wear out before it does me any good. I would like to buy another, but all of my money is going towards paying for college, so I don't want to spend over 30 american or so. I mainly want something that will last a long time and do some damage, but I don't know enough to be able to tell from pictures. Please help. Thank you very much.

I'll just pass this one ove to someone that knows better then I... I would suggest a Bear or a Jaguar... but I'm a beginner...

Hi!

As always, the general rule is that you get what you pay for.
Under USD 30 it isn't likely that you'll get a bali that will walk and talk for a long time

Save some more money and get a Benchmade 42, definitely more dough then $30 but it'll last almost forever, i got a Bm 45S that has been through hell, bought it in 1995/6 and it has seen a lot of manipulations and i've dropped it a lot, still works very well though.
Bm bali-songs rock!
End of cermon.

First of all, who says your new toy is a POS? One of my favorite play toys is a genuine, Made in China, Flea Market balisong that has lasted for about a year of frequent abuse now. The blade is crap, but that's not what I use this knife for. It doesn't latch up open or closed anymore, but that's ok too. The pins on this thing are still going strong. I wish I had bought a dozen more. I think I paid like $10 for it.

Check out the Dragon Forged Balisongs at http://www.onestopknifeshop.com. Mention that you are a bladeforums.com member for special pricing.

They're not the greatest knife, but they're fairly sturdy. The pins will break and you'll have to follow Clay's instructions to repin 'em, but the blade is good and the handles are overall sturdy, so, once repinned, they're fine.
