I recently purchased a Shun Shun-VB0718 Santoko knife. On special for $50 instead of $120.
I then fell on a big special kit from $699 to $199 from Lagostina

The quality seems good forged steel and all, but can't find any reviews on it.

I am now wondering what to do keep the shun and use a Old Prince devonshire I got from my dad as a chef knife but got no clue if these are any good or simply buy a good chef knife and paring knife. I have a nice set of steak knives already
Or return the shun and keep the lagostina kit. Apparently kits are not the best to buy but the specs seem good. Was the original price overinflated and the quality is mediocre?

What do you guys think?

No, you sound like someone offering to sell Cutco knives outside of the Exchange forum and without purchasing a Dealer membership. I'm sure the site moderators will help you find the forum rules.

hey, didn't see this one when posted.

Keep the shun, don't bother with the set. A knife you know is better than a dozen you don't get used to. the Shun should do pretty well. find a couple victorinox paring knives, a regular and a beak, shouldn't cost much for both, under 10 I'd think. that will likely be all you need for basic cooking. as you need knives to do specific jobs (like a boning knife, or fillet knife) then get one of those. Its an easier way to get high quality knives. Lee valley sells a good knife block that is universal, has little plastic rods that hold the knives. Or get the blade guards they sell.
