problem #1-My wonderful GF got me a tinker today. The problem is that I snatched up a Climber a few days ago, and didn't tell her. Now I can't tell her, but I can't go hiding this other knife forever..

Problem #2-My dad found my Grandfather's knife. He was an Electrician in the 50's and 60's. It is as far as I can tell, a Camillus Electricians knife with micarta scales. The main blade is ruined, and the knife is starting to rot out. can/should I replace the main blade? should I just clean it up, leave the blade, and cherish it as the keepsake it is?

#1:
Just fess up, take your lumps. Better to be honest than to lie. I mean, why complicate your life over a pocket knife? Just be apologetic and let her know that the one she got you is a great and special gift. Maybe throw in that you shouldn't get yourself things right before gift giving holidays.

#2:
Clean it up, leave the blade, and cherish it as a keepsake.

1. Don't tell her about the Climber...Send it to me as a gift.:D.

2. Clean it up just enough to prevent any further damage, but otherwise leave it "as is".

Problem #1: Stash the Climber for a little while. It's Valentines Day and no reason to spoil it for her or yourself. Gradually bring the Climber out down the road. If she asks about the Tinker she gave you, tell her you've got it stashed because you don't want to lose it and would rather keep it as a keepsake.

Problem #2: Clean it up as much as possible don't don't replace a thing. Leave it as your grandfather had last used it. It took him a long time to get it to that point. The imperfections and patina add character and were put there by your grandfather. I wouldn't be surprised if it always felt warm to the touch. Family reliquaries and heirlooms have a funny way of doing that.

In addition, keep the girlfriend's tinker stashed with grandpa's knife. It'll keep her from digging much farther and I'm sure grandpa wouldn't mind helping out his grandson with that situation.

Hope this helps

Lie to her. Start buying more knives. You'll soon forget about her anyway because you'll have a new mistess "The Godess of Sharp and Pointy Things". Or, just send me the one you bought yourself and no one will know the difference. Glad I could help you out.

Hey Dann, You're almost to 7000. Man, that is a lot of posts. Keep up the good work!
