What should I do about my benchmade?

Recently my brother and I both got a griptilian. My first I had to tighten to get rid of blade play so it hindered the opening. Took it back and tried another. Same problem but a little less, and the blade is off center. My brothers is perfect. 1 out of three? Really

Should I keep returning until I don't get a lemon or just go with something else. We used cabelas gift cards so it must be a model they carry. Thanks for any advice you folks have.

Sorry posted twice

Every grip and mini-grip I've handled have had blade centering and play issues. Their QC just doesn't weed that sort of thing out. It's not likely to affect the functionality much, but if it bothers you go with another knife - perhaps from another manufacturer like ZT or Kershaw. All of the black class benchmades I've handled and owned have been free of major defects, but they abound in the cheaper models.
I don't know what is available at Cabela's so I can't help you much on specific suggestions.

When you return the one you have, ask the Cabella's guy how many they have in stock. If it's only a few I suspect that at 3-to-1 you are being given knives already returned a time or two.

Then go to another dealer and buy one if you still want one. See if your luck is better.

Bottom line, you don't have to accept a knife with an off-center blade from anyone.

Every 556 i've had my hands on has been very good. Centered blade and minimal play. Don't know what to tell you. The guy above might be right get black class. There is barely any folders that don't have some minor blade play. Recon 1 CS has zero blade play and same with Lionsteel's and DPX's absolute zero play . Want zero play get one of those. Really like the DPX Hest but like my BM 275 more.

Axis lock knives will tend to have a sweet spot in the pivot. A little too loose and there will be some play, a little too tight and it wont be smooth. All it takes is just a few degrees of a turn on the pivot and it can change from perfect to not so perfect. I would say get some Blue Loctite and then on the next go around find out where the sweet spot is then apply the Loctite to keep it in place. It wont move after that.

As for the off centered blade, that really comes down to personal preference. If the blade is rubbing the liners that is one thing. For me, if it is close or under $100 I couldn't care less if it's a tad off center. Doesn't inhibit function. Now with higher priced knives where you're not just paying for a cutting tool you're paying for quality materials and a higher degree of craftsmanship they should be closer to perfection.
