What should I do for this weekends outdoor adventure?

I invited a bunch of friends to come camping this weekend, but everyone has family stuff so I'm looking for something else to do. My current plans are to have an adventure from Friday evening to Sunday morning. Should I #1 Pick a campsite to spend two nights at and do some hikes from there or #2 Backpack in to a place Friday and Backpack out Sunday morning?

What say you all?

The original plan was to go up to Mud Hole Friday evening, have dinner and loaf around the fire till bed time. Then Saturday more eating and loafing till we headed home. My right hip is out of wack which makes hiking down hill with a pack some what painful at times. So as much as I want to go backpacking this weekend, it might not be the best idea. If I have someone drop be off at a base camp then do some hikes out from there, I can bring a more comfy mattress to sleep on more toys and better food.

Though if I take the correct trails backpacking shouldn't be to hard on my hip. Choices, Choices...

I hope the passarounds get out to you before your trip, so you can put them through their paces.

The Bird and Trout Knife should at the very least. It went out via Priority Mail this morning and the postman said it should be in Utah on Friday.

Given your potential problems, I'd do the hikes out of base camp thing.

'Course it could be bias, since that's about all I can do these days myself.

Don't much care for the thought of you going off on your own with some existing damage to your locomotion.

Stuff happens.

#1 arived this morning and I have posted my initial impressions and inspection thoughts in the thread. Going to make Chili with it in a few minutes for the campout. :)

Looks like it will be here Saturday or Monday. Either way, I'll find some cool way to use and test it out. ;)

Base camping and hiking is what I finally desided to do. Thanks for thinking of me. Wednesday and Thursday I was in tons of pain, only did a little leather working, the rest of the time I was sitting or laying down watching movies. Today I'm feeling tons better but don't want to risk popping the hip out again with a heavy/hard hike. Besides, I have knives to test out and play with! :D

T-minus 4 hours and counting! In other words, I'm heading out on the trip around 1:30pm today. :) Got two passaround knives and a new Khukri to test out this afternoon and tomorrow. Will be camped about half a mile in side the national forest boundry on the right side of the road safely above the creek.

Fall hit us Wednesday or Thursday bringing cool mornings and warm afternoons. Since I'll be camping just below 7,000 feet and in lots of shade, I'm prepping for a very cool evening and morning. Irish Setter Elk Tracker 882 Boots, Wigwam Marino Wool Comfort Hiker socks, heavy duty Carpenter Jeans, Flannel shirt, and a bandana for my neck. Should keep me warm durring the evening. Got a 20 degree mummy bag, blanket, thermal PJ's and knit cap for night time. Figure to be in bed between 9pm and 10pm since it will be crazy dark and getting cold by then.

I love this time of the year. Waking up, seeing my breath, fixing a hot cup of tea or chocolate and watching the sun rise. The smells are just amazing around here right now and getting better every day. I'm exited if you all can't tell. Well got to go make lunch. If you don't hear from me in the next few hours, see you all tomorrow!
