What Should I Get Myself?

Well, I recently found myself in a back brace for the next two months because of football weightlifting. Since I can't do anything, I thought I might buy myself a new toy. My budget is $125 (High School doesn't pay much:)).

I currently have a 550HG Griptilian, Buck Vantage Select, Endura 4, and an Izula that I don't necessarily care for. I liked the size of the Endura, but I liked the action of the Griptilian more. That made me want to get a Mini Grip in a clip point blade, just to change things up a bit :D.

But then I saw a Paramilitary 2...

Those two seem like opposites (large hole opening vs small thumb stud), but Benchmades new pricing makes them about the same price. I can't go hold a Paramilitary 2 because my local Sportsman's Warehouse carries all of Spyderco's less popular models (Same thing with Kershaw, it's kinda weird. I can't really complain though, they have the whole Pirahna and Benchmade line.). I have held the Paramilitary, but I was under the judgmental eyes of the creepy salesman, my brother, and my mom. The salesman brought up a good point about the compression lock being awkward for Southpaws like me, but closing it with my thumb wasn't a problem. The Mini Grip would be perfect, but I wanted something different to fiddle with in my crippled state.

I thought about varying my collection with a Kershaw, but the only one I liked was the ZT 0566, which is slightly over what I want to spend. Also, how does a framelock work for lefties? They seem a bit harder to close than linerlocks, but I could be wrong. I'm not to sure if the local store carries this, I'll have to check next time I'm across town.

So what do y'all think I should do? Be boring with the Mini Grip, surprise myself with the Paramilitary, or splurge on the 0566? Or I could get myself a new watch (Seiko SKX007). Maybe an Xbox game or two...

Thanks! -Kris

As fun as a new knife is, I don't see it entertaining you for two months. Might I suggest a book instead? I was going to suggest some movies, but two months is quite a long time. A book or two will be cheap, entertaining, and will be a lasting "distraction" from being temporarily disabled.

If reading isn't your forte, maybe a Netflix or Hulu subscription and check out some TV show series'? I believe 24 is on at least one of those services, and there's enough of those to last you all summer.

Pull the trigger on a paramilitary 2. The big hole is slightly weird at first. You get a hang of it fast; a few options to open it.
Useful little slicer; definitely not for any kind of prying.

The mini grip is solid, and not boring to me. Axis lock is really something different if you've never had one in your hand. So easy to use, and just a great blade, check out the video reviews.

Also in your price range I'd recommend the Buck Marksman or the Spyderco Manix 2. I have a Para2, but carry the Manix 2 much more often.

Spend it on booze and hookers 8-)
I don't remember where I read it but it was funny.
"Half of my money I spent on alcohol and women, the other half I wasted"

A Manix2 S110V is a great knife in your price range.
I got my ZT 0566 for under 120 when they first came out and that too is a great knife.
Out of the 2 the Manix is more lefty friendly but I can close the 0566 frame lock pretty easily left handed.
Hope you pick a nice knife and heal up well.

The chase is most of the fun, that can waste a couple weeks right there. Could always get a rat 1 & 2 for a total of about $70 then wait a while and pick up a emerson kershaw colaboration.

How about a Spyderco caly 3.5. You can pick it up on Amazon for about $100.00. They will deliver it right to your sofa. Man I've been there before, but my sports injury cost me six months 😖. Anyways I did my research and that's the knife being delivered to me on Tuesday. Like the other post said. Half the fun is the chase so continue to surf and, you know its a must, to milk that injury all you can. Lol

Netflix + Amazon Prime + Humble Bundles, that should keep you entertained for 2 months.

Sorry to hear about your injury I hope you have a good and fast recovery and everything heals up correctly. Just some advice though take it easy even if you don't want to, I am still recovering from various shoulder injuries :grumpy: and back injuries don't like recovering quickly either. So listen to your body instead of powering through the pain, because if your anything like how I was and most guys I knew back in high school who also played sports all pain meant to us was that we were still alive, breathing, and conscious which were good things (I was a hockey player, and yes I still have all my adult teeth . Baby teeth on the other hand not so lucky from hockey).

Netflix, booz, and hookers are all the best idea, but for your budget the hookers would not be any good so stick with Netflix and Booz to wash your pain away.

Hahaha thanks for all the replies guys! I've got plenty of books to read with summer reading as well as book report due the first day of school for AP Euro. We have Amazon Prime and all the movie bundles so that should keep me busy a while. Also, the World Cup just started. Anyway, back to the knives.

I have seen the Manix 2 but I don't really like it. I might pick one up with Amazon and if I don't like it I can return it. I saw the Marksman but haven't considered it at all. I'll probably have to pull the trigger and get something or else this will never end.

How about this practical and non- fun idea. Put the $$$ in the bank. Save it. Leave it there for something big someday.
Sounds like you have enough things to keep you entertained.
Or...... Get some decent sharpening equipment and spend the time in the back brace becoming a sharpening master.
Or........send the $$ to me. I run the Angus McGunnigle Foundation. We are there for my own needs and then I'll buy some stuff with it and tell you how your gift made me happy and then you will be happy and feel really good about yourself and all the children of the world will sing songs together about your greatness.

Go for the 0566! You can get them for under $125, as stated a couple of comments before this one.

The other day they where $144 at BladeHQ. I might have been looking at something else though...

Their site says to proceed for a lower price.

If anything, I always recommend Kershawguy.com

He ships fast and free and if you ever have an issue it's a very easy process of hitting him up and him taking care of it for ya. Good dude.
