the pins on my jag broke so ill be sending that back for a return. im looking for other knife suggestions though. i know everyone will say get a benchmade but being a poor college student, a $130+ knife is a little out of my range at the moment.
what are my other options? jaguar and bear are the only two 'good' ones that come to mind. but from what i hear (and discovered), the pins on the jag become loose and imprint themselves into the handle. the bear tanto blade w/stardust handles looks nice but ive read reviews that say it has the same problems as the jags.
the jag i have obviously has some flaws, but the blade on it IS nice and near razor sharp. that and quality are what is important to me. can i get this with a cheapo china knife or does the $8 price tag reflect the quality of those as well?
ive seen different posts on this board where people put up pictures of their knives and theyre all pretty nice looking yet they arent benchmades and certainly dont appear to be china crap. what kind are they and where can i get them?
any suggestions with a link to where i can purchase it would be appreciated. i'd prefer not to spend more than $50-60.

also, i have read the posts on how i can fix the problems w/the jag, but i dont have the necessary tools to do so. and even if i did i dont trust my workshop skills enough to go pounding on the blade. 9 out of 10 times i would probably end up bending it in half.

trust me, fixing them REALLY isnt that hard. you'd have to be pretty stupid to really mess your bali up if you followed the instructions.

I have a Jag and a Bear, and I have to admit that I like the Bear MGC a lot more. It feels more solid and clean to me while manipulating. The handles havent broke on me yet though (which I hear is a problem). By far, my 42 is in a league of its own and is *the* best. I just cant get over how light it is!

Since your budget is $60, I would suggest saving it and applying it towards a bm42. You will get a lot more out of your money. And besides, $130 is not that much more.

Well, if you are patient, you can probably pick up a 42 for $100 on the forums. But for now, I would suggest a clip point Bear. I prefer them over jags and I find the pins don't snap and the action is smoother. Plus, you can pick them up for about $20. Sure its no BM, but for the price...

where do i get a bear for $20? i want the tanto blade.. cheapest ive seen the 440 blade was about $26, cant decide if the damascus is worth $25 extra.

www.discountknives.com. I would really advise against buying the tanto blade one. The knife flips really slow because it has a bad blade/handle ratio mass. I don't own the damascus, but if your going to pay that much, I would just save for a 42. Personally I wouldn't trade 10 tanto bears for a 42.

Plus, you don't want me to show you the other side of the blade do you?

NO, NOT THE other side!!!!!

I don't even look at my Bear Tanto anymore (and not just the fact that it is on Jag handles that are crap on their own!) I put my Jag through hell (grinder, hammer, dremel, file, etc) and the Bear handles suck too much for me to ever buy another Bear. The Bear's cost too much money (where I can buy them they are expensive) and the handles will break without a doubt if you manipulate it.

Believe me, just stick with a Jag, fix the pins with a couple whacks of the hammer onto shortened nails and save your money for a 42, you will love yourself for not buying more balis that will break and buying a BM.

Hm, I disagree with everything on this forum about jags being a better knife, I like the bears a lot more, yeah the handles break but better that then your knuckles, I hate those Jags, the handles are humoungous and they weigh a ton, especially when they slam into the back of you hand(yeah yeah, if I was an experienced bali slinger I wouldnt have that problem)Well thats bull crap, doing the simple basic vertical is a real bad one, I actually fractured my index knuckle doing that to fast with a jag, go figure that one out. So IMO get the bear, less wear and tear on your hands and if it breaks buy a new one.

I found the vertical basic painful at first, when the blade ricochets off your index finger too.

My first(and only, so far) Jag was the black one with thermoplastic inserts(I ordered a skeletonized one though). I found the handles rather heavy, but since I only had experienced one other bali, I figured it was normal, and figured since it was heavier, my hands would get stronger.
