Hey all, I am looking for a folder for every day carry. I want something in the 100 dollar range, 6.5 to 7.5 inches, with excellent quality (duh). I am looking at the benchmade 690 and the crkt wasp. Any thoughts on these two, and any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The thumbstud on the Wasp is placed in a position to interfer with cutting and sharpening on a frequent basis.

I couldn't stomach spending 100 bucks on a Crkt the Benchmade is a good choice

Some say the end is near. Some say we'll see armageddon soon. i certainly hope we will. i sure could use a vacation from this bull Sh!t three ring circus sideshow of freaks

I've handled the Benchmade 690 and it is a well made beautiful knife. I don't think you can go wrong with the 690.

A Pat on the Back is only a few inches from a Kick in the Butt.

How about a Carnivore Cub? 3.25" ATS-34 plain blade, 7.75" overall. Very solid and excellent lock. 1SKS sells them for $79.99. Handled one at the ECCKS and liked it very much.

I have two full size, 3 7/8" blade, Carnivores which I like very much. Am looking to get a Cub for airline travel.

I second the Cub. I bought one, and it never leaves my general area. Always within reach.

It is a solid and well made knife. Give it a look-see.

If you find you must throw something at me, please make it a custom.

I would probably recommend the BM 690 if I could only get my hands on one to check it out.

How about looking at the SERE 2000??

It is a little more than the $100.00 price, and I don't know how it would compare to the 690 for reasons already stated, but it is one seriously overbuilt knife.
*Note-The only downside to the SERE is the sharp thumbstud which was easily corrected with a jewelers' file.
This knife is now as close to the "perfect folder" as you can get, IMHO of coarse!!!

I'm afraid you will probably get a different answer from everyone. All the knives mentioned are top notch. I would like to recommend the Spyderco Wegner. It is my personal fav. I havent found another that comes close ergonomically. It is also built very well. My Wegner has never let me down.

Use the search engines for some great older threads... try combinations of things like "Wegner Starmate" to get threads with both words.

I own probably 30-something folders and I like these production pieces:

Benchmade Axis 710
Spyderco Wegner
Spyderco Starmate
Benchmade AFCK 800 & 812
Benchmade Pinnacle 750
William Henry stuff (more delicate, gents stuff)

Then you'll want a Sebenza just to see what that's all about. The small is a gem of a daily carry for office workers. The large is great all around, from daily carry to heavy work for a folder.

Onward and upward from there...

The 690 looks interesting, haven't handled or seen how the stabilized rosewood comes out. Can't quite tell wassup with the black on top of the blade grind...? Swedge with coating? Not real wild about that huge Elishewitz hub cap of a pivot pin myself. At least it doesn't look like a sink drain filter on the Benchmade...

I like the 940's and 942's in some ways, not enough to buy one yet. Nifty little daily carry pieces.
