I wanna start finishing my knives with a strop.I searched the net and found lots of different choices. How do I know which ones to use? Some are attached to boards some are not, some are for razors ect.I have mostly pocket knives with some fixed blades.Thanks..

This is uncanny, I was just looking at that video on your site. That video is what prompted me to look in this section.

Great video by the way!!!

If your using leather you want it to be of the highest quality, handamerican leather is what I have used for years and it has worked very well. The leather is only half of it though, the compound you use is what really matters. Rouge or chromium oxide are some of the more common strop compound's and do a good job at achieving a nice polished edge. They tend to have a hard time with some of these new "super steels" though, but not to worry that why they make diamond paste. Diamond paste does not slow down, it has an amazing polishing effect and produces a sharper cleaner edge. Diamond paste can also be used on MDF (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium-density_fiberboard) IMO yielding better results.

If you are looking for a high quality strop send me a PM or e-mail thru Blade forums.

I use a small strop block that I got from Knives Plus. It does put a more polished edge on after sharpening, even after I've used the U/F Sharpmaker rods. Some weeks, all I do is strop if the usage has been light.
