ok, this may not be the new question but i don't seem to find a best answer to it. I have number of knifes, i think 7. some collect some not. those that i use, in my opinion needs to be sharp a little. I never sharpen those knives simply i am afraid. i love them too much that i am afraid if i did not do it right, i will either screw the blade or i will scratch the blade surface. 2 of my knives are collectable definately i cant allow a scratch on it.

the only sharpener i have is a 8 inch stone that i buy from the hardware store. The traditional sharpener. i only use it on my kitchenware. it looks like something will damage the blade. Is it?? or am i thinking to much. should i use it on any knife no matter collectable or not?

Or there is a better sharpener for matters like such that truely sharp your tough steel with much less hussel or energy.

Do yourself a BIG favor and read the Announcement at the top of Community. It will help determine where posts should go. If you continue to post in the wrong forum you won't last here very long. And once again...............

The Spyderco Sharpmaker is a popular choice because it's simplicity in use, and it really puts a keen edge on. If you are worried about the finish, cover the entire blade (except the edge) with tape.

If you have collectable knives, don't worry about sharpening them because you aren't going to be using them anyways. Sharpness of a show piece is a moot point.

Then you shouldn't be sharpening them.

Just like every other collectible, the value of a knife is determined by its condition. Unused, unsharpened will bring more money.

Why do you need to sharpen them if they're a collectible and not a user?

I am sorry if i put my questions at the wrong folder. where is it again? where should they belong? i dont' seems to find it. please excuse my actions, since english is not my first language. it will be harder for me to find it. thanks.

Good question. Don't sharpen the "collectible knives", like everyone else on this thread has already told you not to do.

I would see if you have a friend or neighbor that is a knifenut and ask them to show you how they sharpen their knives.

My second recommendation would be to learn all you can about sharpening and various sharpeners. Here are some links that may be of assistance.

An old knife sharpening wizard taught me two MAGIC WORDS (They are not to ever be mentioned among non-knife sharpening mortals).

The first word is "BURR".

The second word is "STROP/HONE" (well sort of two words).

Learn these and you will be a Master sharpener. As mentioned previously there is a CURSE attached to becoming a sharpening wizard.

What is the curse you ask?

Well I'll have to tell you or I'll be doubly cursed myself.

Once the queen of the castle realizes you are a KS Master she will expect all the kitchen knives to be kept very sharp at all times. Of course you are entitled to extract a fee of some sort for your wizardry services.

Did this help? Confuse?
