What should my first case knife be?

I am looking to pick up my first case knife. I love the looks of them. What would a good first one be?

My vote is for the peanut, since Case seems to be the [current] master of this pattern.

It is great for general EDC and it compliments many other knives if you carry more than one.

I would go for the "CV steel" over the "true sharp SS" as well.

Here is mine in chestnut bone:

Oh! and be sure to check out the traditional knife sub-forum if you haven't already.;)

I really like their trapper, but I hear their new swayback jack is really nice and getting more popular.

There are a lot of patterns to choose from in the Case lineup.

It's really a very personal decision.

I will recommend one of the Stockman patterns but only you know what is right for you.
I especially like the Humpback Stockman.

Good luck in your search. I know you will find something that you really like.

i would like to go with the humpback stockman. does anyone know a website where i can find one for a good price?

Good choice!

Here's mine just for the heck of it. Does everything I need it to do.

I'll send you an email with some dealer links.

Here are the Case knives I own in the order I bought them

Tiny toothpick (chestnut, CV)
Large Stockman (amber, CV)
Large Trapper (Yeller, CV)
Swayback Jack (Chestnut, CV)

And no more since, because the SBJ is the best one. Amazing finish and quality, melts into your hand when you're cutting and your pocket when you're not. It's my favorite traditional slipjoint and I highly recommend it as your first Case.

Try a peanut or small toothpick.

Okay. A couple of questions first. Small (3" or less closed), medium (3"-3 7/8"), or large (4"+)? Single blade, double blade, more? Is corrosion an issue? Is it going to be a safe queen, a user, or an edc? How much you got in your wallet?

I don't own any but I love the look of the backpocket. If I ever get a case(s) that would be my first.

I agree with zippin44. These questions will really help us make a suggestion to you. Are there any scale/handle materials that catch your eye?

I often carry a fullsize trapper with bone scales or a peanut with yellow scales in CV. Case knives are a great place to start on slipjoints. They aren't too expensive but really are great.

The Cheetah has been released from the vault, love the looks of it. The Hobo is a nice choice also. The only Case i own.

Get a Peanut (2-7/8") and maybe a larger size Stockman. For office carry, the Peanut is just cool :-)

The Case Trapper in CV is a really good choice, it just depends on which blade and handles you like. There are no wrong choices when it comes to Case Knives.
