hey everyone, was hopping you guys could help me with my next purchase. ive got a few hundred $ and want to get a fairly decent BIG blade. i have alot of machetes, folders, and edc knives. now i want a big blade. here are the ones im thinking about: ESEE Junglas, Cold steel Gurkha Kukri(SK-5 High Carbon), Tops prather war bowie, and CRKT Hisshou. the hisshou is what i really want but its built for combat and i dont plan on going on a special ops mission anytime soon. i really like jungle, wilderness, and rescue knives and the hisshou doesnt really fit with any of those. if theirs i a knife you think i might like that i didnt list PLEASE tell me about it! im open to any suggestions. thanks

Of those you listed I like the junglas the best I've used mine alot and its a great knife. You might look at some of the busse or swamprat offerings. The new Rukki from swamprat would be pretty cool.

Junglas is a great choice, but don't forget the BK-9. Some will disagree, but I actually like it over the Junglas.

that BK-9 is REALLY nice, hmm i will have to look into that more. ive been trying to go onto the swaprat website but my pc keeps blocking it:P anyway off to look at the busse site. thanks

Also, if you like khukuri, Himalayan Imports. ESEE products have a very good reputation. Fallkniven and Bark River might be some others to look at as well.

well i looked at busse, i just fell in love when i saw the BOSS jack but for the price(over $300 including a sheath) i would feel bad even using it, i know the steel is amazing but i dont think its for me. i think i want to go with esee but not the junglas, i was thinking the esee 6 then i could get the molle back and pouch from the knife connection($200 for everything). how would an esee 6 hold up in the winter? i plan on going winter camping this year with my brothers and i wanted a good size knife to cover everything.

If you are really interested in the Hisshou, and it is a very nice, and well built piece of cutlery, then go for it. Most times we end up buying something we really feel strongly about. But if not careful spend a load of money for other knives that seem more practical, only to end up buying the one we wanted. Of course I don't know if it is a bad choice since you do end up with more knives.

You might want to take a look at the newer one CRK&T has out, the Shinbou. It is made from the same stuff, YK-30 carbon steel, cord wrap over stingray, and kydex sheath, as the Hisshou, only shorter at 9.25" vs. the 13.00" of the Hisshou.

Busse, Becker, ESEE, Cold Steel, KaBar, so many awesome choices. It really is hard to know where to go. The BK9 looks like it would be a great addition to any collection.

I'd check out the exchange to see if anything in the Busse, SwampRat, Scrapyard family caught your eye. My Bussekin are some of my favorites.
