I've got a yellow Case Sodbuster Jr. in CV and I love it and I've got some older knives...barlow, stockman, scout, and so on. But I can't decide what I should get next...what do you think about these? If ya got any other suggestions speak up. Note, this knife will be in my EDC rotation. I'd like to keep the price around or below $65, doesn't have to be a Case either.

-Sodbuster in D2, Case or Queen, I like the yeller, excellent knife.

-Case peanut, good to take to work (though I used my sodbuster jr. today at work and got no reaction), might be too tiny for my taste though.

-Case stockman, just can't go wrong, don't like the thin clip blade like on a toothpick, I like the normal wide one.

-Case texas jack, looks like a really good design, basically a big peanut right?

-Case mini trapper, I like the smaller trappers alot more than the full size.

Thanks in advance. :D

+1 for the Texas Jack. I'm partial to knives that have 2 blades and have carried a 62032 for some time now. When I feel the need for something a little bigger, there is always the 6292 Jack knife. To me there is little resemblance in a texas jack and peanut. I look at the texas jack more as a stockman with one blade removed

The trapper is a popular pattern, however I never warmed up to the full size trapper. The Mini Trapper is completely different though. Very easy to pocket, but gives the feel that its a bigger knife than it really is.

I've been carrying an old Schrade Uncle Henry trapper. I really like it. The size falls in between the mini trapper and the full size trapper

senior, start hitting the flea markets , junk stores, and pawn shops in your area. it wont be long before you'll be finding some of them old classics. :D found me a case damascus trapper not long ago for $15. paul

How in this world did you get a damascus Case for $15?

-Case canoe, good looks, little bulky perhaps?
It's not bulky at all!

The Case Stockman 63032 CV in Chestnut or Amber bone is the same frame/pattern/size as the Texas Jack

It has a pen instead of a spey, and a very useful sheepsfoot

I really like the Queen Canoe
It has a single spring, where the main blade is the width of the spring and the small pen half the width.
So the main blade is exteremly stout for hard work

-Case russlock, desing growing on me, good knife?

-Case trapper, don't care much for the design, but not completlt against it.

Thanks in advance. :D

Well, you've already got a stockman and a barlow, so why not go for something a bit different?

The Texas jack IS a very nice pocket knife. Basic two blade jack that would be at home in any liers circle.

Or you could get a peanut. It may change the way you think about small knives. A lot depends on where you work, how you dress (what kind of pants you wear 9 to 5 Mondays thru Fridays). You may find need of a small cutter that disappears in pants pockets.

Besides, a peanut grows on you. It's just enough cutter for 98% of what you do.

Perhaps, just perhaps, it's a good idea to change continents for your next slip-joint knife. Variation keeps life spicy.
For example a classic Italian Zuava with horn tip handle, at the top of this page:

Or a "Pattada Molla" here, with horn top handle. Indeed above your budget, but just look at it :

Well I work at a restaurant where I basically wear a suit without the coat, so dress slacks at work but jeans everyday while not working. All I really need it for is cutting open boxes and large bags of granulated sugar and such at work.
My sodbuster jr. fits really good in my pocket and I don't even notice until I stick my hand in my pocket to fumble with it. I used it at work yesterday in front of someone with no reaction, so I know a peanut won't even turn a head, except for it's good looks of course. :p. I'm just afraid I'll favor my other knives more while not at work and it won't get as much use until I get used to the size.

Hmm, siounds like you may not be a peanut person.

I can't argue that a soddie is a darn near perfect pocket knife. A little bulky, but due to the construction is a very lightweight knife for it's size. Kind of a do anything knife. At one time my edc knife was a large Eye-Brand yellow soddie almost 5 inches closed. Big, but light and carried well in jeans.

Hey, here's an idea; try soddies for a while, kind of like a sub collection. There's Boker, Eye-Brand, Queen in D2, not to mention some very nice customs.

Pocket knives; so many patterns to try, so little time.:D

junk store i stop by occasionally sells used furniture. the old lady that owns the place found it it a recliner. she knows i like knives. needless to say i drop by that place every 2 weeks. most of the knives she finds are junk. oh well. cant win em all. :D

That certainly is a nice pair of knives, but I'm trying to keep it under 4 inches closed.

Maybe a single spring Muskrat? Queen Cutlery for example.Slim and very easy in the pocket, excellent for restaurant work I'd say, fantastic slicer, good cutter(I just took the foil cap off a wine bottle with mine)elegant and totally un-menacing.

Me too. I like the Queen City one even more than the amber bone though.

That's what I suggest. You can still find em' cheap on collectorknives.net

They are nice knives I just don't really like the design, I'd rather 2 different blades than 2 of the same one.

Thanks for the link.
