What size and style Bowies are available?

I know a few of you are partial to the HI Bowies so I wonder if you may guide me to what choices are available on the market. I have one that is a bit large and heavier than I prefer (although a great knife). I was just looking for something a bit lighter or thinner and shorter than what I have.....

I can't seem to get the picture to link.....
(Why can't we just upload from computer?)

I don't know what to look for so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

If you punch in IBBB or micro bowie or bawanna bowie or a few others you should stumble across the smallest of the HI Bowies. They run about 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 " overall.

Then they go a 10", I have one of those, I know there's a 15", I think there's a 12, not sure how big they go but really big.

The Giant Chitlangi Bowie I think runs like 24" or so. I wear a micro bowie every day, don't leave home without it.
Great knife, tough, really tough.

Thanks Bawanna, I thought maybe you would have some input....I know you mentioned you were a Bowie guy.....

Yep that's some good old bowie madness right there!! I also carry my IBBB everyday, and know the currently-absent GB does too. Plus I did a sheath for Cul's IBBB as well, and know it will see EDC use. A bunch of different kamis have been making these IBBBs lately, and they all look great.

Here's a pic of Cul's IBBB with mine. His is on top

And here's my lil Bowie with my full-sized 15" AKB

Oh and also my AKB-inspired design, the Kitchen Camp Bowie aka SG Chef's Knife

Definitely look up the Thamar Bowie and the Liberty Series, the Tiger Killer knives, and possibly even the Trisul

Yes, there is a 12". I EDC my IBBB, I sometimes carry my 10" or 12" while trail hiking, and my 15" is for serious campsite use. The 15" is quite massive, not to mention a little heavy. I don't have a GCB yet, but someday I will.

18" AKB's show up occasionally. Although, I believe much more than 15" can get hefty quick as Cul alludes to. I have a 20" AKB made by Bura. A giant of sorts and at 49 ounces, a real handful.

It's hard to generalize about what might be available at any given time. I'd say your best bet is to send an email to Yangdu indicating the length and weight range that you would like. She might have one in stock.

Tell her the length and weight of the one you already have, so she can be clear that you want something smaller than that.

Personally I find that weight is more important than blade length for ease of handling. However, if two blades have the same weight, the shorter one might be easier to handle just because the center of gravity will be closer to your hand. It also depends on what you plan to use it for.

What do you currently have? Size, weight, model?

Great advise.

Here is one of the "Ghost" W-49's, that traveled from the US as a forgotten blank, to Nepal for shaping, fitteded with a horn handle, and shipped back to the US. Along with my CAKB (Chiruaw Ang Kohla) and my IBBB, or Micro AKB as she was labeled on the daily deal.

Look at the difference of these spines! The W-49 is 3/16", followed by the IBBB at 1/4, with the CAKB a solid 3/8",

while one can do the same thing the other can do, lighter is easier to wield, and more precise. Smaller is more precise, and easier to pack, but takes longer for thicker cutting jobs. The Kamis at HI create tool that are works of art. I love using them.

I see IBBBs, one 10", three 15", and the 18" AKB - it appears that you are missing one of the 12" AKB models?

Ok guys, where are you finding these great Bowies, especially the 10" and the IBBBs'

Auntie might have some IBBB's. I just got one a month or so ago made by Anil. He did a good job on it.
She might have more.
She usually has the larger ones, I don't know about a 10". Sure don't hurt to send Yangdu an email and tell her what you want. She just might have it.
