What size hole for paracord wrap

Hi there,

I am making some small neck knives (kind of in the sytle of the Atwood tools) that I hope to have done before the Canberra Knife Show the first weekend of Feb. I have ordered some paracord from supply captain to do a cord wrapped handle but it won't arrive in time for me to send them off for heat treating and get them all finished before the show. So I need to drill holes in the tang to do the cord wrap without having any paracord to determine the sized holes to drill. What size holes do you guys use? I am guessing around 1/8 inch or 3.5mm would be suitable but wanted some confirmation/reassurance before I go drilling holes and sending the blades of for heat treating.

No offense Alistair,

But without knowing the size of the paracord what advice can be offered? What size did you order?

You always miss including the most obvious things don't you :) I ordered the standard 550 paracord.

I use a 7/32" hole as a standard for 550 cord. I use the 7/32" brass tubing to line it. 3/16" will work unlined. I'd say if you want it lined use 7/32" on up. I also do 1/4" and 5/16" lanyard holes.

Oopps. I just re-read your post. :o I use 7/32" holes and 1/4" holes for cord wrapping. The 1/4" hole, you can run the cord in doubled. A 3/16" hole will work also for a single strand.

Thanks for that. I'll be drilling them this weekend :) Also the paracord has arrived earlier than I thought it would so I will be able to check it out for size too.
