I'd like to mess around with a pocket slip design that's a bit different than the usual fair... and I'm wondering what size pocket slips do you guys prefer/find the most versatile? I have a couple of saks but sadly I don't own any traditional folders that would provide decent base measurements. This would be a foldover style with stitching at the bottom and a single side, but I'll be adding a welt from thicker leather that should help maintain structure while adding minimal weight (pinch to access).

What height and width pocket slips do you guys prefer in general? Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

I only have very small slips, because the only time I use one is when I want a small knife to share a pocket with either a larger knife, or keys. Especially if one of the knives has delicate scales like mother of pearl. I played around with scrap leather, trying out various designs. They aren't pretty, but they work.

Nice! What size slip do you find to be the most ideal?

I like slips that long enough for alox sak's, which you know are touch longer. I don't mind if the slip is a little longer, might use the same pouch for pioneer or cadet. 2.5mm thickness leather about 10.5 cm about 2.5cm wide to accommodate thickness of pioneer. For me it's not so just protecting the knife but what else is in my pocket.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the measurements :) So just an inch wide, am I clocking that right?

Hmm, I'm not sure I can give a general number. I fold the leather over the knife & mark where to cut. I want the leather to cover the knife, but not by too much or it's more difficult to extract.

I carry my knives in my pocket organizer.
If I used a dedicated knife slip it would have to be big enough to keep my knife upright and where I want it in my pocket while staying in my pocket when drawing my knife out.

I have several slips that are quite similar in construction and size, and they work well for me. This one is probably my favorite (thanks, John).

As you can see, it's made by folding up from the bottom and stitching both sides.
Regarding dimensions:
- 4" from center of bottom edge to center of top arc (3 3/4" from top corner straight down to line through bottom edge)
- 2 1/8" wide overall (1 7/8" between the two lines of stitching)

- GT
