If I want to use a tarp instead of a tent, should it be 6'x8' or 8x10? I like to sleep under the stars,if it is not raining,do I need something over the sleeping bag.The last time I tied it the bag was wet in the morning from dew. Thanks all.

Counsel,

Where did you get the 13 ouncer? I have an 8 X 10 I got from REI. It is pretty sturdy but a LOT heavier.

Thanks,

DPD.

To keep your sleeping bag from getting wet you need good breathing space between it and the tarp. Try propping it up, at least on the end where your head is. This will help keep your own breath from condensing on the tarp and soaking your bag. A 6X8 would do fine.

Do you also need to keep moisture from wicking up from the ground? If so, consider an 8X10. Fold one half under you and prop the other side up with sticks. If the sky is clear, throw the top half back and enjoy.

I'm going on Hoodoo's recommend of the 8x10 ultralight backpacking tarp from campmor.

I won't be using it until the end of the month most likely, so no feedback until then.

Do a search in this forum, there's a couple of threads with 'tarp' in the title.
