What size is your preference for slippy carry?? I have amassed quite a collection of large stockman patterns, around 4 inches..but they seem a little large for pocket carry in everyday life...lately I've been finding myself gravitationg toward the medium stockmans Around 3and a half inches closed... seems to be almost perfect in the pocket...

I really like slippies from 3 1\4 to 3 1\2 the best. I have been carrying a medium Heckels whittler lately and the size is perfect for me.

Elliott said it right, once again :D

For like a Sunday hanging out going over someones house or church type day,3-1/4"
Every Day work type day 3.5",3-5/8"

Folding hunter/fisherman around 4" closed

I like medium stockman and mini-trappers. I like my SAK's two layers thick, but 3 is good too.

I like a 3.25" to 3.5" single blade slippy. They disappear in my pocket and are big enough to perform the tasks I ask of them.

I have settled on 3 1/8" closed as the perfect slipjoint size for my EDC needs. For heavier work on occassion I'll move up to 3 1/2" closed or so. Even though I have some VERY large slipjoints, once I truly need something larger than a 3 1/2" folder will handle, I tend to move to a fixed blade;) Gonna try a large slippy for hunting this year though:thumbup:

I have a 2 7/8" Peanut in dress pants or watch pockets at work (white collar evironment)/ a 2 layer SAK is about as much as I want in my pocket the rest of the time. Anything bigger I'd rather carry in a belt pouch.

I like the Larger Knives, they fit my hand better.

I really like stockmans and trappers at 4 1/4" and will pocket carry Case and Queen 5 1/4" Folding Hunters, Buck 110's.

3-1/8" to 3-1/4" is just perfect for my pocket and lifestyle. I'll go down in size to Peanut, or up in size to 3-5/8" (mini-trapper, stockman), just for variety, but my preferred size is 3-1/8" to 3-1/4".

LOL By looking at the Sizes on this list/thread, I can see I'm the odd man out and is why I can find lots of 3.5" stockmans and few at 4.25".

Most of my life I carries 3 1/2 to 4 inchers. Regular size scout/sak and my 3 7/8 Buck stockman covered a 35 year span. Then once past 50, I started to lean toward the 3 to 3 1/4 size folder. Just more convienent to carry, and cuts just as well.

These days Its pretty much the same, exept I love peanuts and basic one or two layer sak's. I've been experimenting with very small pocket fixed blades, and they are light for thier size and carry well. About the size of an open 3 inch pocket knife but weight less due to simple construction, and they lay very flat in the pocket.

Along with jackknife and others, I find myself gravitating more toward the 3 to 3 1/2" pocketknives. My favorites are my old Schrade 34OT and my new Case #6344SS. I have bigger...and smaller...pocketknives, but these get the nod most often. They just seem to be more convenient to carry and use. As jackknife said, I find they have enough blade for what I need to cut! I'm also past 50...maybe that's why as well!

If you look at this thread, you'll see just how varied the preferences are:

I find it much easier to just pick the knife size and pattern that's appropriate for the potential use, clothing or venue it may find itself being carried in.

It is just as Elliot & Vince have said..

The above thread has a wealth of knowledge that may interest you in your search.

I like 3-7/8" to 4.5" mainly because it means the handle is big enough to be comfortable if i have to use it for more than a minute. Also my favorite looking patterns all seem to be 3-7/8" to 5".

I rarely need any more blade than on the 2-7/8" peanut though.

Bulk and weight is more important to me than length.

I prefer a lighter slimmer knife in general, hard to fault a Slimline Trapper or Utility knife style for instance. CASE Medium Stockman is 3 blades but not bulky whereas SAKS (excellent knives)stay in my pack or bag as I find them a touch too heavy in the pocket.
