What slip joint knife should I buy? 50 bucks!

The Spyderco Squeak is a great knife if you want to try out Bohler N690Co steel, which has both amazing rust resistance and phenomenal edge retention. you can get a Squeak for less than $45 shipped.

Above and beyond that, the Squeak is amazingly easy to carry, is light and thin, and has exceptional ergonomics for fairly hard use cutting tasks like cutting triple wall cardboard, etc. It also has one of Spyderco's absolute best clip designs: the loop-over wire clip.

Might be a couple bucks over your limit but it's hard to go wrong with a Case Swayback Jack in CV and chestnut bone.

How 'bout a Douk Douk? I've been carrying mine for seven years solid. slender, useful blade shape, minimal parts, with a very cool history. Mine has become almost a superstitious talisman as it is a cutting tool to me. It can be sharpened on most anything you stumble across, sharpening stones, coffee cups, river rocks, emery cloth, etc. and always takes a good working edge in no time flat. It's a wonderfully refreshing knife to own in today's world of limitless knife options, and does wonders to bring you back to earth when it comes down to what a knife should be-which to me is nuthin' but a fist full of cut.

If you like something a bit more up town, I think it's also hard to beat a Queen Country Cousin, Sodbuster style. 3"ish D2 blade that handles everything a folding knife can handle and then stands ready for more.

Actually, I didn't even notice the original poster's name. There are plenty of great Buck slipjoints, you should check out the Buck subforum here on bf.

Good question; I'm kind of getting back into slipjoints; bought a Case Trapperlock with a clip; was so impressed that it is my current edc but to topic; as a result of being impressed with Case current quality I just ordered a Trapper yellow delrin from AG.

I went on a major slipjoint bender and one of my favorites and most carried is the Case Humpback Stockman. It can be had for under $50 if you look around. It comes in a bunch of scale options; I have one each in "rough black" and ebony. Here is the rough black:

Good luck in your hunt.

I'm another that thinks the Case Swayback Jack with CV steel, and Chestnut bone is hard to beat in this price range.

Do you have a Buck 301 yet? If you don't have a stockman the 301 is a great place to start. I've had the same one for about a decade or so, and it's still in great shape. I've carried it a lot and was never afraid to use it.

I'd get the Case Amber Bone Stockman in CV, lol, actually I have one on order myself. I also have the TSA approved Case Peanut in Chestnut Bone CV on the same order. Good luck with your search, its all about your own taste

Spyderco UKPK. 'Nuff said. It is the prefect light duty edc, and can serve medium duty if you are smart (remember it doesn't lock). I love mine and would have paid $50 and still been happy.

Definitely a Douk-Douk, comes in 3.5-in and 2.5-in versions. Very positive backspring and tough construction, sharpens easily and cuts great too.
