So I recently got a stainless steel delica 4 my first spyderco ever. And I love it! The only thing I'm not keen on is the back lock. But that's just a personal preference. Anyways on to the reason if the thread. I'm looking for a new spyderco. I'm looking at the manix 2 with the blurple scales and just wondered how the ball bearing lock holds up I've seen many people say they love it though. im also am looking for other people's suggestions. I don't want anything to big I like to carry my knife in my watch pocket (not even sure the manix 2 will fit sadly.) but I'm also looking for the scales to be pretty much any color but black. The knife won't be going through hell and back either but I still want it to be able to hold up if an event arises.

Sadly I know I'm kidding myself asking these questions. I know everyone will have an opinion and no one will be wrong.

Manix 2 is great and the Caged Ball Bearing lock holds up just fine but, as you've said, it's not likely to fit in your watch pocket. I've carried a Dragonfly, Chaparral, and even a Native 5 in my watch pocket but those are all back locks and you've stated you weren't keen on back locks. Not sure why, because there's nothing wrong with a back lock. They're ambidextrous, easy to open and close with one hand, and they lock up tight, especially on the Chaparral and Native 5. I've had no real problems with any other back locks either. Assuming a back lock is out of the question I was going to suggest a Cat, Chicago, or even a Persistence. They're all good, relatively inexpensive, liner locks but they have black G10. So in smaller knives, no back lock, and no black G10 you have the Sage series (one of my favorites), Mantra (another fav), Dice, Techno, Firefly, Vrango, Wolfspyder, Foundry, and PITS. Of those I only have the Sages & Mantra. They're excellent and they will fit in a watch pocket although not ideally.

Good luck with your search. I'd recommend looking through the Spyderco catalog, check the dimensions, and see what suits your needs.

If watch pocket carry is what you're looking for and you want a different lock maybe hold out for a Rhino. Priced reasonably, uses a compression lock like the much larger PM2 and Sage 5, but should fit comfortably into a smaller pocket. Plus it's cool looking.

It's only coming in black for now sadly, but given the low price, you can probably find a maker here to create some aftermarket scales and then have a knife uniquely your own.

Not that back locks are out of the question as the delica 4 is a back lock and I edc it with my buck 110. But I used to edc everything with liner locks and I still find myself looking to close it like it's a liner lock. But that might be something I need to learn to live with. And you mentioned the dice well I wondered about the domino but Both are a bit over budget right now. And to be honest I might need to get over my watch pocket thing also. I wouldn't mind trying my back right pocket but I tried it once on a kershaw and the pocket clip kept coming loose. Would do front right pocket but I keep my phone there and I never liked the way it sat with my phone there.

I looks nice but not sure I like the blade design. Although I think I might own one once it comes out for the price point.

Manix 2 is awesome. The BBL holds up excellent. I flick mine like crazy and see no signs of wear past the break in. I'm sure it will hold up for years. The lightweight model is another one to look at. They actually have more color options available and are much lighter. I seriously doubt it will fit in you watch pocket though unfortunately unless you have some abnormally large watch pockets. You may want to check this out before pulling the trigger. It does ride nice in a front pocket for its size. It carries smaller than it is for sure. I don't see how you could be disappointed with one if you could deal with it not being in your watch pocket though. Its my main edc.

The Manix 2 is a big knife and a pocket hog. It will not fit in your watch pocket and it will fill up your pants pocket leaving little room for anything else.

I would look at the Kiwi 4, the carbon fiber Chaparral, a Dragonfly (I like the G10 best), or the Cat (liner lock). The Rhino would be nice but it is still delayed.

I think I'm going to need to get over the watch pocket. To many good knives I want that won't fit. Although I found this http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1096611-List-of-Spyderco-knives-for-the-fifth-(watch)-pocket
Think I might be going with the manix 2 and I'll have to rearrange where I put things a little in my pockets. Although I really like the looks of the mantra and it's a flipper which is a score. I have this problem at Restaurants also everything looks good and I can't decide.

i myself have found the manix 2 just a bit large/heavy to carry most days!i carry ether my native 5 or a caly 3 in a watch pocket, fits nicely there, the mantra is a grate size as well, take your time and pick wisely.

If you want true knife freedom, switch to a slim, front pocket wallet and start carrying your knife in your back pocket. Size no longer an issue.

Well I actually already do that. But does having the knife in the back pocket cause the clip to work loose?

Mantra or maybe wait for up & coming smaller Para 3. Chaparral would suit watch pocket carry but is a back lock.

Depends on the model. More pronounced clips tend to be more affected by it. Blue Loctite does the trick though.

Well I carried my delica4 for half the day in my right font pocket and didn't care for it. Tried it in my back right pocket and it wasn't to bad think I'll try it for awhile. I'm just wondering if it will hurt the knife in anyway like bending it or braking plastic scales.

Well I'm thinking If the back pocket is going to work I'll be going with the manix 2. Otherwise the new para3 might be interesting when it's becomes available.

Your not going to bend a manix 2 g10. Solid as a rock.
