I am told Cold Steel changed up the steel on the Bushman model. I have the original Cold Steel Bushman model #95BUS and want to confirm what steel they originally used and what steel they use now?

Thanks~

IDK, but the new bushman is made from SK-5 steel heat treated to RC54

That is right out of the CS catalog.

OK, now I'm :confused:

Another member just emailed me and stated the original Cold Steel Bushman was made out of the 'Carbon V' steel.

Help? :(

IDK = I don't know.
I have also heard that they used Carbon V which was supposed to be made by case and was the same or very similar to their own steel blend, IIRC. (If I remember correctly) I believe they used Carbon V on many of their earlier knives and it had a very good rep. for sharpness and durability.

Thanks SOLEIL. I don't think Case makes Carbon V..

As far as I know:

Tru-Sharp(Stainless Steel) = WR Case

Chrome Vanadium(Hi-Carbon) = WR Case

Carbon V(Hi-Carbon) = Camillus{Before they closed circa 2007 I think?}

Did Camillus make Cold Steel knives before they closed??

Camillus made the Carbon V used in Cold Steel knives.

Yes, your right, it was Camillus. Thanks for the reminder. I think Camillus made steel for a variety of manufacturers, including Cold Steel. CS has always contracted their steel making out and had a winner with the Camillus made Carbon V. I have a few old CS in Carbon V and they are great users, including an old Bushman.

Accoring to Cold Steel from an email I recieved this is what they had to say about the Bushman Knife.

"Hello Tony,

Thank you for your interest in Cold Steel. The Bushman series has always been made from SK-5 steel and not Carbon V.

All the best,

Adam
Cold Steel, Inc."

I think cold steel always marked all of their knives with "Carbon V" if that is the steel that was used on a paticular model. At least that has been my experience with all of mine and the rest Ihave ever seen.

On another note some of the Camillus Roughcut Stockman folders were marked with Carbon V on the blades.

Tony
