What steel for pivot?

Hello all: I have started taking apart some old folders and putting them back together for practice. I would appreciate some suggestions on what steel to use for blade pivot pins on small folders, something I can peen. Just mild welding rod? Stainless? TIA

The original pin is .062", and 2d cooler nails should be right there.
I'll check this out if... if I can find any.
