Hi guys,
does anyone know what steel is used in this knife?
Description says 10" high carbon steel blade with a satin finish.
Thanks

It's a very nice knife. Large, comfortable and meant for cutting. They are gone from most places and I heard they've been discoed. If you can find one for a good price and like it grab it while you can.

BTW, I heard it was 1084

I think they are being re introduced. I saw them on preorder and in stock at knifeworks.

The AG Russell site where I got mine said it is 1080... for practical purposes there's not really any major difference between the 108X steels.

Anyway it's very tough, well-balanced and takes an excellent keen edge. The handle is pretty blocky but that's better than too small, you can easily round off the corners if you want. The sheath is sturdy and well-made. I like mine very much, grab one if you can.

it did well in the destruction test on youtube as well. this surprised me.

This is a nice feeling blade in the hand. I suspect it is made out of 1086, 1085 as few others have mentioned here. Whatever it is, you've got yourself a nice knife for the camp. They are available if you are willing to do a bit of surfing. Prices are generally around $140.

$100 at one place which is one of the reasons I figured it was getting discoed.

As far as I know it is 5160. But I have been known to be wrong, on the rare occasion.:D

The literature that comes in the box only says "Blade is crafted from high-carbon steel with a .142 satin finish." AG Russell's website says it's 1085C.

I agree completely with JT's comments above about it being a well balanced blade that takes a great edge (it's convexed) and comes with a great sheath. I also found the handle to be 'blocky'. Being a non-stainless steel you can expect rust on the exposed edges of the full tang handle unless you look after it. There were some great pics of handle modifications done on them in a thread over at the British Blades forum last year IIRC.

it says 1085 on the paperwork when I got my knife. I know for sure its a carbon steel because during those hot and humid days about 2 weeks ago (during that heat wave), I saw some rusting spots towards the tip of the blade. This knife is the sharpest darn knife that I own. The only knife up to par is the fallkniven F1. It shaves to easily it's scary.
