What steel is used in......

Slicer,
The "current" standard EDC is 154CM. When we first brought the EDC out, it was 420HC. Starting this year, 2002, we discountinued 420HC, and went with 154CM as the standard blade steel for the EDC. All of the 154CM blades are marked with "154cm" etched on the blade. The special AG Russell exclusive D2 EDC's are also marked with D2 ecthced on it. Of course we mark the TALONITE EDC's with TALONITE.

The only EDC's that are not marked with what the blade material is is the original 420HC knives.

The current standard, or "Enhanced EDC" is also easily identified by the black coated clip, thumstuds and screw heads.

Thanks for the interest!

I just got one of the model CU221 knives by mail order.
The box says it is ATS 34 but there is no marking on the blade.

I'm sure this is the earlier version, why would the box be marked ATS 34 if you used 420HC ??

Hi, blade steel caharacteristics has always interested me. Although the proprietary steel used in the BK&T knives may not be revealed, can you give me a comparison to other steels such as CM154, ats 34, etc. I just received my BK1 and had to go out and chop some stuff in the backyard. I was impressed as to how the blade held up.

Thanks,

Will

P.S. - where is the BK&T plant located? Just curious, if it isn't a secret.
