What steel might be on my Sebbie?

Hi everyone, I've got a small CGG Seb "In God We Trust" and the details on the inside of the handle slabs say B 98 so most likely they were made in the B batch in 1998. Would anyone venture a guess as to what steel the blade is made of? Now I know that the knife wasn't necessarily made in 1998, but the handles were though. Would that date be early enough for the blade to be of BG42 or was Chris already making blades out of S30V?

Also, I bought the knife without a birthday card. Maybe Chris wasn't sending his knives out with birthday cards in 98...

Thanks guys .

Just a guess, but i'm also thinking BG-42
Does the blade tang have any stamps on it?

All though, I have been wrong LOTs of times :D

Just checked and no stamps on the blade. Don't know if this helps or not but the hardware is bead blasted too, but that could have been a custom job.

Sounds like BG-42

I have had a few BG-42s with bead blasted hardware from CRK. Could be a aftermarket Mod, or a request from the buyer. My guess would be it's just what they use to do on most of the BG-42s, IMHO it looks great :)

Nice score

"When Chris first started making the One Piece knives, they were all from D2. It was in February of 1987 that he changed to A2. Since then, we have made a very few out of D2 but that was because we could not get A2. Regrettably no records of how many, which or when!"

Thanks Rick, I have read that sticky many times but it seems I have overlooked this part. I guess it looks like BG42 on this one...maybe I can get a confirmation from Chris himself when I send it in for a refurb in the future.
