What steel were old Tech II's made of?

I have a SOG Tech II from the early 90's. I love the blade, and I'm curious what steel they made them from back then. The blade just says Seki Japan, and I know it is a stainless steel because it was lots of fun to sharpen. I've got it hair-popping sharp now thanks to Razor Edge Systems and some elbow grease.

The other question I have is, has anyone else encountered a rattling handle? This handle is rubber coated, and there is a loose piece by the lanyard hole. Did they have a full tang back then? Maybe I could cut the rubber coating off and put slabs on it. ;)

I've had my Tech II for only one month now, but don't know the vintage, I bought it used.

No rattling noted, maybe it was fixed by the time mine was put together.

Cheers,

Carl

As far as I know (sorry I missed this post:o ) they have been AUS6 from the get-go...
I have not had a rattling handle on a Tech, give SOG a call, and see what they can do. If the handle is broken... there's not much, I wouldn't think. Could it be the brass grommet at the lanyard hole?
