What stones do you super knife nut / kung fu knife sharpening masters like to use? I am thinking about buying some more stones. I was going to get some DMT stones and a DMT rod or 2. Thoughts please? i have some king stones but i dont like them all that much. some guidence from the great ones would be nice.

DMT stones are nice, but they are not cheap. If you are thinking about getting a few of them you would be spending enough that it might be worthwhile for you to get yourself an Edge Pro instead. I am VERY pleased with mine.

The continuous surface DMT stones are inexpensive, ~$16 each for 6" x 2"

I just got a cerahone stick for touch ups, but the surface isn't smooth all the way around. Hopefully it clears up a bit with some use and the specks making the surface irregular will come off.

I also got a loaded strop from Knives Plus, and it's excellent for finishing an edge.

DMT Coarse or Extra Coarse for re-beveling. 6" X 2" is OK for a 4" blade, but larger size for larger blades. Optonally, cheaper Carborundum stones will do this job nicely for $10 or less - but they wear rapidly.

Spyderco ceramic stones, grey for removing grind marks and white for finer edge work. The little Spyderco DoubleStuff combination stone is very nice for quick touch-ups to repair minor edge damage. They're tough, and will be still be true-flat after you are.

I like strops for final polish and routine edge touch-ups.

Hope this helps!

The DMT duo-sharp is not cheap, but it's a good long term investment. I plan to be sharpening on mine when I'm old and feeble. Well, when I'm older and feebler, anyway.
