Hello! I am looking to buy my first strop. What brand works for you? I will be using the strop after the uf rod for the sharpmaker. Any advice for strop brand and paste would be nice. Nothing to expensive either. THANKS

get yourself a strop from Mr2Blue here on the forums--makes one of the nicest custom strops i have seen at a great price--have two myself--as far as the compound--i use the green and i believe it is a 5 micron if i remember right--:D

Agreed, they are some of the nicest you can buy. I just received a pair today. Check the for sale section.

I made my own. I searched the net and found this place for selling scrap leather. http://www.bbarbwholesale.com/leath....html?osCsid=ab4dd020aa819d4c6ed86a426bf82971. It is very inexpensive and you can get a whole bag full to make as many strops as you need. I made 15 of strops of varying lengths and still have half the bag leftover. I bought both the chap leather and deerskin. The deerskin is very fine and I use it as a step down on finer blades. Elmers wood glue and a heavy weight is all you need.
