What SureFire?

What SureFire would you reccommend for me to EDC? I'm a school student, and this is to request for my upcoming Birthday or Christmas.

Any suggestions?

The E2E-HA, I have one and it is really nice. The L4 is also nice if you would like an LED light. The L4 has the same body as the E2e, but has a 5W LED that claims the same (65 lumens) as the E2e, I think.

The ergonomics are great:

The light is 4.5 inches long and weighs 3.2 ounces. It fits in your hand perfectly.

From the www.Surefire.com website:

Slim, unobtrusive, and extremely powerful, the E2e Executive Elite is a favorite of undercover police officers, who appreciate the fact that this penlight-sized flashlight is as bright as a four D-cell flashlight yet small enough to hide in a pocket. CNC machined from aerospace-grade aluminum with a choice of super-hard Military Specification Type III hard-anodized or a standard hard-anodized Satin Grey finish, the E2e comes with a Lexan (tm) lens, high output lamp assembly, removable stainless steel pocket clip, and two 10-year shelf life lithium batteries . The light also features switching favored by law enforcement—twist for constant on, or depress the tailcap button for momentary illumination (great for signaling with Morse Code). A patented lock-out tailcap allows the light to be locked in the off position to eliminate accidental activation when stowed away.

I'd also suggest the G2. The G2 puts out the same amount of light as the E2 and is half as much money. I think the E2 is a classier looking light but the G2 gets the job done for less clams.

Needle,

How much light do you need, and for how long? Compare to something easily referenced, such as a AA MiniMag or 2xD or 2xC-cell MagLite.

How big do you want it to be, say, compared to a roll Lifesavers or a car key?

Would you like a LED or incandescent?

How much is the gift-sender looking to spend?

Well the gift sender is my parents, and since I can't have more knives ( ) aside for a few cd's that's about all i want. I think it should be very bright, durable, incandescent, and the E2 size is just perfect.

Then that should be just fine. :)

If your budget allows (ie. sacrifice a few CDs), you should also look at the L4 and the A2. These will give you more versatility and extended run-time while maintaining your preferred carry profile as well as lighting output needs. :)

I went with the C2 (it was a graduation gift!). It is larger than the E2e, but still quite pocketable. And I can go from the 60 lumen bulb to the 120 lumen bulb if I want. I think I can even convert it to rechargeable. Way more versatile, but larger.

I have the g-2 and the e2e.

The g-2 is too big/bulky, but light in weight.

The e2e is perfect on my belt and I don't notice it's there, so it's light enough [ get it, "light" enough? ].

The E2E seems to fit what you want and if your parents are buying it then there's no worry about cost. The E2E HA Black just came out recently--they look pretty good. There's also the wine (burgundy) colored one (if you're into the burgundy thing).

I prefer the L4 myself.

Just a note on Surefire size. It is relative. The G2 is larger than the E2. However if you are used to a regular flashlight, any Surefire will seem very small. The G2 is considerably shorter than a 2AA Mini-Mag but is larger at the head. The E seies lights are about the same diameter as a Mini-Mag but even shorter than a G2. The biggest carry advantage to the E lights is the pocket clip. That said I can cary my G2 in a coat pocket or a pair of cargo pants and not even notice it. I got rid of my E2, as I still found in to big for pocket carry in dress pants. I now EDC a Arc LSH-P and have my G2 for back up in my coat or briefcase .

the g2 is nice, but if your parents are buying it, you should ask for the l4 or e2e instead ;)

another suggestion (i know you didnt' ask for it...) is the arc lsh-p. in my opinion, it's a better overall edc, even though it isn't as bright.

The ARC's are cool, but they seem awfully small. The one I liked the most was smaller than a AA and about a half inch longer. I think that's a little on the small side. That has the ergonomics of a SAK Classic IMHO. I think I'm going with the E2...maybe they'll spring for the LED conversion...maybe not :(

Before you get serious about a SUREFIRE light, check out the line of STREAMLIGHT Stinger lights.

IMHO, a better light. I carry one all the time, and would be my life on one, cause of my line of work.

the arc you describe is the aaa. while it is an amazing light (i would never leave home without it), i was refering to the ls light, which is bigger, but still smaller than any surefire.
you can get a 2aa body for it, which will make it a little smaller than the minimag. a good size i think. it should also be brighter and whiter than an surefire 1w led (though as with all leds, this is subject to change).

if you're set on the surefire, the l4 is probably the way to go :)

I like my G2 because I can drop/throw it around without any damage to the outside. The material used for the G2 is very durable and it is also warm to the touch. Something you will love on a cold night.

My two "high performance" flashlights are a Surefire M2 and a Streamlight Scorpion.

The M2 (2x123a) feels solid, is hard anodized and comes with two bulbs (65 lumen/60 minutes and 120 lumen/20 minutes). Lexan lense. Shock-resistant head assembly is bigger but I haven't broken any lamps yet. Cost me a little over $100 but I think they're more now.

Streamlight (2x123a) is rubber coated aluminum, smaller, lighter and cheaper ($35-40?). I think it comes with a spare bulb but I haven't had to check.

If I had to buy only one it would probably be the Scorpion. It's all the light I realistically need. Of course, this forum is rarely just about needs . . . Either one will light up your world nicely.

I've only heard good things about the E2 and E2e but I've never played with one.
