What takes Kifaru so long?

My girlfriend just ordered me a Kifaru EMR with XTL, 2 dock and lock side zips, and an E&E bag for Christmas. They said it isn't going to ship out from them until Jan. 17th, so I'm not expecting to get it until sometime in Feb.

Why the heck does Kifaru take so long to send there stuff out? Do they wait to get orders before they stitch up the bags, pockets, etc..? Don't they already have the different bags and size belts made? If so what takes so long? Are they backed up on orders? Are they just a really small company?

Do any of you have larger Kifaru packs? How do you like the minimal hip padding? How is it for load bearing?
Did it take you a long time to get yours?

Mystery Ranch packs are awesome, but I've read reviews about the nice frame braking. Plus my GF already ordered the Kifaru.

They make orders as they come in, they're a real small company with a relatively small workshop/warehouse. The only stuff they keep on hand is small stuff like pouches and accessories.

When I ordered my X-ray a few years ago it took a good 3 months to get it. :)

3 months? Man, that is some time to wait. We did our research on Eberlestock. Kifaru, and MR. ended up with Kifaru as a present for me, but had no idea it would take so long to make.

How do you like your X-ray? That seems like a rad pack.

It's pretty nice, it's not my favorite pack but I use it almost everyday going to work. For it's size, you can fit a ton of stuff in it like it's magic :)

Yeah, the wait is pretty crappy but their stuff is worth it.

I waited 6 weeks for my x-ray and it was well worth the wait, IMO. A great pack that has seen regular use with no problems at all. I have had other packs like the TADfast pack just fall to bits on me so the quality of the Kifaru was a nice change. :p

I just got my Molle Express. About six weeks wait but more than worth it. Awesome pack!! I had been debating which one to get for over a year then it took a bit to save up the money, The wait after paying was pretty hard but I'm glad I went with Kifaru. I'm now saving now for more Kifaru goodness.

Thanks for the reassurance. I've had several bags fail in different ways (zipper, stitching, wear holes leading to big rips) so its awesome to hear good things about Kifaru's quality.

I'm wondering if I went overboard with the EMR. It seems like most people get the mid size packs like the Molle Express, X-ray, and Zulu. I'd be using this pack for 7 day backpacking trips, extended hunting trips, as well as weekend backpacking, and a BOB. Do you guys think it will be too much of a pack for the 2-3 day trips? I wanted this as a "one bag fits everything" type of application. Does anybody here have experience with the EMR or MMR?

Molle x and the X-ray aren't real big bags, they're mostly just day packs for hauling stuff here and there, I would never try to do any of the things ur talking about doing with either of them. Zulu is getting to the medium area and is one of the best bags they make in my opinion.

I think for the stuff ur talking about, EMR should be a good size. I've never seen one but of all the kif bags I have seen, they're all comfortable and super capable.

I've got a Marauder that's been used virtually daily over the last 7 years. A little while ago, the zip split open. After manhandling the zipper pull back, I gave it a squirt of silicone spray, and it's back to its normal self. I have started to see a couple threads fraying, but daily use on a motorcycle tends to wear things out.
I also have a G1 ZXR, and EMR. Both have outstanding belts and suspension.
I hope you enjoy your pack as much as I have.

These are sewn in the US one at a time. It's not like ordering a pack that is mass produce in China. The wait times are on their website.

Small company, hand-crafted quality. You are also now dealing with every other person who ordered something for the Holidays. Don't forget that these guys also like to go home to celebrate the Holidays.
