I recently bought a cold steel ak-47 field knife. The grip fits my large hands perfectly. I do however find the g10 grip to be a little on the abrasive side. I want to buy some tennis wrap tape, or any alternative someone here can recommend for the g10 handles to give them a softer grip. I am also concerned about how the knife will fit into the sheath with the tape on it. thanks for any help, Jeff I originally posted this question in the coldsteel forum but I think I will get more responses here. thanks again, Jeff

Tennis wrap or grip tape is largely a stopgap or temporary solution, though some people seem happily put Ranger Bands over everything. Cold Steel is known for rough handle scales, and the standard solution is to LIGHTLY sand it down to your ideal balance between grippy and comfort. And by lightly, I mean a few light pressure passes of 180-220 grit sandpaper, because it's a pain in the neck to retexture it if you go too smooth. Stop when you think you are almost there, handle it for a bit to see if it's in the zone, and think if it's worth it to keep going if you might pass into "too smooth" territory.

Also, posting in the Maintenance, Tinkering, an Embellishment subforum will get answers faster.

Edit: If the Kydex doesn't fit right afterwards, you can hit it with a heat gun or cook it a bit to adjust it. There are tutorials on the forums that you can find with a search.

I use Schlazenger (think that's how its spelled) tape- on both my motorcycle and knife handles. Great feel and very durable; easy to work with.

As BitingSarcasm says though, probably not the best solution for your problem.
