I'm afraid I don't know the specifics as I am a recent Emerson convert. It is my understanding that models of previous years had a steel liner (of the nonlocking side) as opposed to the current dual titanium liners. In addition, both liners are of the same thickness whereas the older models used slightly thinner steel for the nonlocking side.
Its also my understanding that the pivot screw has been recessed into the G10 scale in the 2012 models while it was not in earlier years. Changes to the geometry of the pivot screw are unknown to me. Changes to the color of the thumb disc may also have changed. These are the changes I know of to Emerson knives as a whole, not just the Mini Commander.
And yes Allen R is correct, the dates on the blades should be different
Now we wait for someone more in the-know to more accurately list the changes.
Got my hopes up, I have a 2003 Commander with all titanium liners and it's been to the beach and back a few times without problems. I thought Emerson went back to dual titanium liners. A newer A-100 however I discovered a little late about the steel non-locking side. It took a little elbow grease but I got the spotting out before trading it off at a gun show.
