Looks like a British Trike, they never caught on here.

There are a number of very small cars on the market now but I don't know them well. That's a three wheeler ! Messerschmidt made a three wheeler after WWII but that had the single wheel in the back. The mini cars are more common in Europe but are coming here now.

I am no car nut and do not care for cars in general, but I believe this is the first car to have made me physically sick. Not even the Euro enviro-boxes have made me feel more than "whoa, ugh". It must be the unholy combination of vomit green and godforsaken design.

Disregarding the color, that thing kinda looks fun. Then again, it looks like it would roll over whisking into a parking space. :grumpy:

I'd hate to be a passenger. COMPLETELY out of control....

If gas were $8 a gallon and the cars were taxed heavily, you would see more of these on American roads.

Eastern Europe has some of these models in addition to Western Europe. BWM got its start after WWII with a trike. Western European models generally had the single in the rear and a bench seat over the front axle. Eastern European models seemed to favor a 4 door car style body with a single wheel in front.

I'd rather ride a horse...
But I must say, I get stranger looks from people when driving my old gasguzzling Mercedes (300SE W126) than someone driving one of these tiny clown cars. But I'm politically incorrect anyway...
I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters, all from the same parents, which are not divorced and never will. This alone makes us monsters. Patchwork-families are considered politically correct today, so we're "out". Oh, and we're not poor. We should be ashamed. And that's not enough - we're white and noone of us is a homo! How evil is THAT?
If I didn't hide that fact that I'm not only pro-american, but also pro-gun, people would lynch me in our "super advanced", politically correct Europe (soon to be called "Eurabia").

;)

I remember those Messerchmidt jobs from when I was stationed in Germany back in the 60s. Absolute death-trap, it looked like to me. You sat in the two in-line seats, and pulled the "canopy" over your head.

Not as much of a deathtrap as the old Isetta. Remember those? Little 2-stroke jobs with the door that was the front end of the car:

If you ran into anything, they needed a can-opener.

A classmate of mine had an Isetta. A real experience riding in it, especially since he was a teenage (recklessly incompetent) driver. He kept trying to speed, but fortunately, that was one of the many things an Isetta didn't do. :)

Isn't that Mr Bean's arch-enemy?

What a butt-ugly death trap. I'd like to see one of those doing 75mph over The Pass! Fat-freakin'-chance.

Chinese Three Wheelers

One of the things that struck me as REALLY cool when we got to travel around China, was the variety of vehicles that I'd never seen before. Sure there are lots of Volkswagens. And here in Shanghai there are a good number of Buick's and GM products, and a lot of busses and trucks, and dinky motorcycles but (especially as you get away from the ultra-modern coastal cities) there are also an astonishing variety of vehicles not like anything seen on American roads.

Pictured at the left here is the proud owner, and a small taxi or courier car from a small city in JiangSu province. This little car is a bit unusual, as it's not based on a motorcycle or a tractor, but is a rear wheel drive, fully enclosed vehicle that happens to have just one wheel up front. I don't know if it counts as "rack and pinion" steering if there's only one wheel, but it has a pinion.

That's great to hear, Doc Arnie. I imagine the gun laws in Germany are insanely restrictive..?

Yes (:barf:), but one thing keeps me from feeling like a complete slave: I can drive my car as fast as I want on the highway. And since I'm not driving a clown car, but a good ol' gasguzzling Mercedes, I can safely drive 120mph and still talk to the other passengers in my car. :D

Lets see how much time the forces of political correctness need to ban my car and change the general speed limit on the highway from infinity to 30mph. ;)
