What the hell is this !!

I have been shrapening my beautiful badger as it was a bit dull after some heavy work and I have noticed a very strange thing:

On the convex side of the assym blade there is (what appears to be) a crack in the blade - I know these blades are not forged but it looks like a forging crack. Im not too worried cos it appears to be OK but hell what am I gonna do if this beauty chips a piece off ??

dont nearly good enough reso on cam for close ups - just tried all I got was a big blur !!
 
is the line on both sides of the knife, or on one? if it is a crack, i would asume that it would show up on both sides.

it is possible that its just an excepptionally deep scratch in the blade surface, from a nail or small rock, or any random peice of metal/hard marterial like a nut or bolt that you accidentally hit while working and didnt notice...

if its a surface scratch (or gouge as it may be), it shouldnt be a problem. just make sure to oil your blades before putting them away for the night/make sure their dry and clean after use. if it is a crack, then busse will send you a new one.

I thought it might be a scratch but I have honing this bad boy all afternoon and it appears to be worse !!

Could be nothing, could be an inclusion in the steel. Either way, you still got the warrenty. :D
