All stainless steel, "US" stamped on handle, Single blade hawkbill, has a bail.

I know I saw one in a thread within the last 3 months (give or take) but cannot find it! I'm 99.81% sure it was in the traditionals forum.

This one?

Great jig job mazdattc, looks good to me, an improvement IMHO.

I am going to be doing a lot of gardening this year, (at least that's my story & excuse and I'm stickin' to it), and I will be needing a good pruning knife, so I picked these two up on the bay for cheap. First is a Rough Rider RR1143 Coal Miner Series Buffalo Horn Hawkbill, the second is an all stainless steel Chinese no name. The RR is well made, no surprises there, but it is my least favorite of these two.
The no name knife is actually more comfortable in my hand, seems well made, and has a liner lock so will be safer to use among other reasons. It also has a bail as opposed to just a lanyard hole as on the RR, which I find to be more convenient when gardening.
I do like the lined bolsters, the horn handles, the jig, the 440A steel, and I like RR's looks in general, but as a usable tool the all-metal knife wins the day. The RR will look great on my knife display log, but it just feels too weird in my hand to get much use. The no name will be used hard & often, and I won't have to worry about tossing it into a tool box and breaking it. The RR will live on display as my only buffalo handled knife, (so far). I'm not bad mouthing Rough Rider by any means, I have others that I love, but this one just doesn't fit the hand that well, so I'll just keep it as a "looker".

How did you DO that???:eek::thumbup::thumbup:
I tried a little searching, thinking I could help out afishhunter, but I didn't think I was even getting warm.

A single post in a sea posts found within an hour based off of a fairly innocuous description? Incredible work, pertinux!

Aw. :o Thanks, guys!

The forum search software is often a royal pain. There have been too many times recently when I've searched for one of my own posts in a given thread, only to be shown that there are "no results." Lies!

I have been most successful when I've read or seen what someone is looking for, and can remember anything of context to aid with key words.

This time, I didn't remember having seen the knife in question, but the forum search software actually came through!

To whit:

I made sure I was viewing the Traditional subforum, then clicked on "Search Forum" at the right of the thread columns (not the Search box at the top of every page):

Then, I entered "metal hawkbill bail" as shown (no quotation marks), selected Show Posts, and clicked Search...

... and received exactly one result, the post in question (which I am assuming is the correct one, but am hoping the OP will confirm).

Ta da. :)

Wow, that's impressive. Who needs so many open tabs/bookmarks when you've got this guy on the forum? Well done Pertinux!

Cool knives.
Way to go pertinux !

A side note on searches here . . . some times I just go out on google and search the web and then click on the BladeForums that it finds and I get to the past posts I want that a'way.

I am ashamed to admit I use google for spell check the same way once in a while. I have an extreme duty, water cooled, designed by Steve Jobs personally just for me (kidding), spell checker but when it goes down for it's biannual maintenance tear down I am left helpless to communicate in the simplest terms and fall back on google.
Pretty smart that google. It can even decipher my convoluted attempts at shpealing.
(well almost always)

Well done P, you have long been the Star of the search function

Hope afishhunter checks back in here soon, so that in a month's time, there isn't a 'Where did I post my question?' thread! :D

That's the one! Thank you.
Did Camillus or one of the other military suppliers make a all steel pruning knife like that? Maybe for the Navy, calling it a rope knife?

Like pertinux indicated, the search function is great sometimes. I use it often too when looking on here. It also helps me figure out how often I've posted in a particular thread.

Schrade made one years ago. Pre-WWII I think.
