Hi guys,

I didn't know where to put this thread and who to ask since nobody in my family or friends knows anything about knives except my dad... Here's the thing, my dad's 60th birthday is coming up, he is a knife freak, and he loves this stuff, maybe he's reading this right now :) and my mom and I want to buy him something nice for his birthday, and what better thing to buy than a knife? :) So can somebody please give us some recommendations what to buy and where to look, what is considered good quality, where to order from? We want to order something online, price can't exceed 200$ and keep in mind we are in Europe so only stores in Europe come into play. As far as the type of the knife goes we would like to buy him something small, he's not a flashy guy, he likes nice traditional knifes as far as I can tell, maybe something that can fold,a nice quality pocket knife so he can remember us every time he eat's his steak :) So, can we buy him something nice for 200 bucks? I know it's not a lot but that's all we can afford right now.. :grumpy: Sorry if I'm offtopic..

Please, help a girl out! :)

Thanks,

Mia

Enzo Birk comes into mind. they are great and runs about 100 euros.
but if your dad loves classic pocket knives, you might look for the Enzo PK70. it is a non locking/slip joint knife.

Kai kershaw higo personal foldimg steak knife. I've handled it and it is of very good quality. About 100 us. Its not really a steak knife but can be used that way. It comes in a beautiful gift box I will look for a link to include in this reply now and will add.

You might need to ship it to a friend in the states who would then ship it to you. If you don't have a friend here send me an email and I will personally help. My name is chris btw nice to get your dad something he actually likes versus say a scarf or something lol.

Hi guys,

thanks for the recommendations, I really like your choices, those are some nice blades I must admit :) what about some damascus blade knives, anything cool for 200$? I know he's been talking about those blades, and I really like the way they look :)

P.S. Thanks Chris for the help and reaching out, we haven't decided yet what to go with but I will contact you for sure if we go with the Shun Higo Nokami! :)

There is a lot of Damascus out there to choose from. Not sure what is available in Europe or what part you are from but every maker puts out something with a Damascus option. Does your dad have a favorite brand or model? I would start there and then from that find him something from that manufacturer instead of something random. But what ever you guys decide to get him I am sure him will love it because of it coming from you guys. I know I do

For 200 range damascus maybe you can look at Mcusta they offer affordable damascus style blades!

Thanks guys, he really doesn't have a favorite brand that I know of he doesn't even own a high quality knife as far as I know (money problems :) ) and we want to buy him something that is high quality so if we can't get high quality damascus for that money maybe we should go with a regular blade and be sure that it's top notch?

P.S. I like these Mcustas, really nice :)

Check out the Kershaw Wild Turkey damascus. They're discontinued and there's a great deal for them going on right now.

You have to be really careful with the Damascus there is a ton of blade kit Damascus out there and its hard to figure out if it is a good Damascus that will hold an edge. If you go that route I would stick with a known manufacturer. Sinsanity is correct. Also check out EVERYTHING from AG Russell's knife sellers. They basically have zero junk. They also make traditional jack knives with Damascus as well. To search for those you will need to take a crash course in traditional knife patterns which are which blade shape is/are attached to the jack knife. I.e. Google for "trapper knife with Damascus blade"

Thanks Chris for the heads up! Damn, seems that the agrussell server is down, hope that it will be up soon... btw, I think my dad will really like something like that EnZo PK70 or EnZo Birk 75 folder, something with a "heavier" and bigger blade, heck, I fell in love with them too and I don't even like knives that much :) I contacted the Brisa knife shop, we'll see what happens :) those Mcusta blades look really nice too, do you guys know any good dealers in Europe that sell them, google doesn't seem to help me that much? will sure check the ag russell site once it's back up again.

Put a post on general titled which vendor sells mcusta in Europe someone is bound to give you a shout out!

Hi guys,

just to let you know that after careful consideration I order a Mcusta MC-76D Take for my dad and I'm waiting for it to arrive. Will post pics :) I hope my dad will like it, thank you all for your help, you really are a great bunch of guys ;)

Non Damascus--Spyderco Gayle Bradley.
Damascus--maybe a Spyderco delica or endura.
