What to buy next!?!

I started my collection about a year ago. I don't really use these knives, just play with them. I have one in my hand virtually whenever I am awake...flicking them open and closed. I like a variety of steels and sizes and locking mechanisms so I try and diversify as much as I can until my collection grows to the point where I can start doubling up on certain things. Anyway....

I own...

Brown FRN Delica4 FFG VG-10
SS VG-10 Cricket
Sage 3
Paramilitary 2 Digicam G-10 Satin
Sage 1
Lasercut Q (collectable little guy)
Tenacious (my first love)

Sold my Manix2 Blue Translucent and got the Sage 3
Going to sell the Sage1 and pickup a Caly 3.5 Carbon Fiber ZDP-189

I already regret selling the Manix2. I loved the size and weight and the blade was different than anything else I own. I wish there were more CTS BD-1 blades available.

Questions

1) Should I add a stretch next?
2) Does anyone know of any knives similar to the Manix2 ergonomics?
3) How do you guys/gals choose your next purchase?
4) If I purchase a Dragonfly...should it be the Foliage Green G-10 or the British Green FRN?

This addiction is getting a little intense. Thanks all!

I would add some titanium. Sage 2/Techno.

Just curious as to why you're selling the Sage 1? I love mine.

I choose my next purchase after just going through these forums and seeing what consensus people have. Currently awaiting my Techno!

If I were to get a Dragonfly I would get the British racing green for the upgraded steel.

1.) Can't comment on the Stretch since I don't own one. I have been interested in the ZDP-189 version in the past but never took the leap.

2.) If you enjoy the Manix2 ergos, then you'd probably enjoy the Domino. Very similar blade size and feel. Although it has a Ti frame lock and it's a flipper. I have a Domino as well. It gets low to moderate pocket time, simply because I have quite a few other nice knives. But the Domino is an excellent EDC knife, not too large, not too small.

3.) Generally, if I'm going to have to save up some money to acquire a knife I'll do extensive research... here on BladeForums, other forums, Youtube, etc. I'll usually narrow it down to a few choices and then hunt for a good deal on one of them.

4.) About that Dragonfly... I've got the ZDP-189 Dragonfly and absolutely love the steel. But I'm constantly thinking about purchasing the G10 model to do a blade swap. If I really had to pick only one, I'd still choose the ZDP-189.

The Techno is an excellent knife. I use mine literally every day. I typically carry the Techno and a larger folder (Strider SMG, Ti Millie, Umnumzaan, etc) but honestly, the Techno gets a lot more use and realistically could replace the big folders I carry.

I never thought I'd say this, but my biggest gripe is the wire clip. I normally prefer the wire clip but the rest of the Techno is just so solid that it makes the clip feel downright noodly. Granted, the clip certainly gets the job done.

I'm going to also recommend the techno or sage 2. I picked up the sage 2 on a whim because there was a cheap one here, and it's one of my favorite knives.

I'd also recommend a salt series, great, great knives.

A matriarch or civilian would be great too!

Since you like playing with your collection, consider getting a flipper. Both the Domino and Southard are terrific. The domino does allow better access to the spyder hole, so it has more options for opening.

How about a Stretch SB. You will be killing two birds with one stone since you get to try a different handle shape and a different blade material.

I am a big fan of G-10 so would recommend the G-10 D'fly over the BRG FRN. You can, of course, also wait for the SB version to come out as well!

Buy one of each! Someone told me that here a few months ago that's been the best advice I've gotten so far;)

I really like the FRN Dfly's, I EDC a salt every day and one day I'm going to buy a ZDP (unless the super blue is FRN, then one day I'll get the super blue).
The G10 is a fantastic little knife and as with all spyderco's the steel backspacer is my favorite part visually. The scales feel good and the added weight is nice, if it was the only knife I carried I'd probably prefer the G10 version because its more stout but since its not the only knife I carry I want it as light as possible and the one piece FRN handle is half the weight of the G10 one. I have a friend's G10 dfly here right now I'm making moon glow scales for and its a NICE little knife, I'm even watching for a good deal on one to make scales for myself, but when it comes to actually carrying and using it I love the FRN version so I'd say go FRN/ZDP-189 over G10/VG-10.

As for what to buy next, get that Caly 3.5 cf! After xmas that'll be my next new-knife purchase and I can honestly say I wish now I would have bought it already instead of the last 2 or 3 knives I did purchase.
After that for something different get a Chokwe, they just got disco'd so they'll probably be going on sale soon too and while Ti/G10 and S30V isn't anything different the shape is unlike any other modern folding knife I know of.

Definitely get a Stretch.
Then a Gayle Bradley.
Then a Domino, (you'll need a flipper and this one's a beauty)
Then a Military, (you'll need a big knife)
Sorry about that.
Cheers

Wow! You guys are great, good stuff!

As I mentioned, its all about the diversification in regards to steels, ergos, aesthetics and mechanisms right now. I wanna get as many different facets as I can to start the collection and build from there.

I was only going to sell the Sage1 bc it was somewhat similar to the Caly3.5 CF (which i have to order soon bc I dont think i can live without it too much longer)

The Stretch and the Caly 3.5 seem to be the front-runners for my next purchases. Dragonfly (I love the G-10 Foliage Green) probably soon after unless something else sneaks in.

Domino, Sage2 and Techno are calling me as well. Something titanium is probably in order.

This is a disease isn't it? I feel like it wont be much longer until weekly visits to SKA (Spyderco Knives Anonymous)

Save me a seat please. :o

All great choices you're making.

Current Collection

PM2 Digi Satin (S30V)
SS Cricket (VG-10)
Delica4 Brown FRN (VG-10)
Sage1 (S30V)
Q Lasercut (who knows)
Sage3 (on its way)
Stretch Green FRN (ZDP-189)

NEEDS
Caly 3.5 CF ZDP-189
Dragonfly (Foliage G-10, Green ZDP)
Something Titanium (Techno, Domino, Sage2)
Something Different (Chokwe - just discovered this thanks to this thread....looks sweet. Now I need it)

Am I missing anything? lol

Try to get some older models as well, through the trading forum or other sources I just traded for a rock lobster and it has knocked the pm2 from my pocket which I didn't think would happen.

Got the Sage3 in today. This this is just silly. Feels phenomenal, super fun to play with, and looks classy as hell. This bolt-action is like melted butter...bc room temperature butter is tougher to cut through than this knife is to open and close.

Bad news...the minute I decided to keep my Sage1, someone bought it lol. So now I need a new knife!

I am not too disappointed that I have to ship my Sage1 away as the Sage3 is an identical blade...and I love a variety.

Domino is on the list, but its a little pricey for my liking for this purchase.

Chokwe - bc its different
Caly 3.5 CF ZDP - because its CF and would nicely replace the gap left by the Sage1

Thoughts on those two? Or anything else in the $150 or less street value range? I've been checking back to this forum for less than a week and have learned more than I have in 2 years. This is great stuff.

get the techno as it has a great steal and has different blade shape than the other spydies you have. I just got mine for the price you have listed!
