I will be visiting in Rorscach, Switzerland, during the 22nd through the 24th of June or so and was wondering if any of you had any knowledge of things to do while in that area. I am accompanying my wife who will be occupied, but I will be at leisure, as they say. So, I am looking for things to do and to see. Are there any suggestions.

For identification purposes, Rorschach is near the eastern end of Lake Constance (or the Bodenzee), right near the Austrian border.

I did read of the statue of Imperia at the mouth of the harbor at Konstanz, Germany, on the western end and the story makes me want to go and take a look for myself.

From Switzerland, my wife and I are then going to see Pompeii, something of which I have dreamed since I was about 8-10 years old.

Since I tend to carry a pocket knife, I was also wondering what any of you might know of laws concerning such practices in Switzerland and Italy. I had thought to bring a Spyderco Delica, a 3" knife with a back lock along in my check through luggage and then carry it when I got away from the airports. Will that be legal?

Well, the last time I went there I checked out the art museum, but I thought it reallly sucked - everything just looked like ink blots that resembled female genitalia.

Sorry. I apologize, but, like a moth to the flame, I just had to be the one that did it.

dayum, mycroftt--
I had been trying to think of a smartass reply, but I couldn't get anything near that good.:D

Apparently Sankt Gallen has a UNESCO world heritage site (a well-kept-up abbey dating from the 8th century) and a rather nice university.
Google Maps says St. Gallen is about 15 km from Rorschach. I cannot grab a URL, but go to Google Maps and type in

"rorschach, switzerland" to "gallen, switzerland"

for driving directions.

Also known as St. Gall.

What's this mean?:D

I read somewhere that the town is named after the family of the guy who invented the test.

Cougar, I have had a thread over in the legal forum for some time now and have gotten no answers.

Hugh, give me a call when you get to Italy. I doubt whether we could get together (Pompeii is not close to where I live), but it would be nice to chat.

Somebody fell over backwards in an office chair.

While in Switzerland- try Raclette- it's a cheese dish. Wonderful stuff.
