My most prized knife also seems to have a serious design flaw, or I got a lemon or something. The knife is a fixed (full tang,) handmade Japanese affair made of D2 with G-10 handle slabs:
In its time as a resident of my lock-box, I noticed this discoloration appear on the handle:
I just took the handle apart and was somewhat horrified to find some light rust on the metal which apparently has migrated to the handle as well:
Perhaps it's not surprising given how D2 is not stainless, but it's a major bummer. And to find it on the G-10 is no fun. I applied some Flitz-brand polish to the metal which removed most of the oxidation but I'm at a loss as to what to do with the handle. Does anyone have any ideas? Help is very much appreciated.
