SO i have a Cold Steel Carbon V ODA. The edge is too thick for me, so i'm wondering what i can do about it. At my disposal i have a medium flat stone, a CRKT sharpening system and an angle grinder with a 40 grit flapper disk.
Thanks,
CHris

Use a bastard file (assumed most everyone has access to one of these even though you didn't list it but if you don't, you can get one for less than $10 at any hardware store) to remove the steel and get the edge angle you want, follow with the flat stone to put the final edge or micro bevel on it, finish with cardboard or leather strop loaded with suitable polishing compound. Never used the CRKT system before but if you're comfortable using it, you can finish the edge with that instead of your flat stone. I'd stay away from the flapper disk ....

I wouldn't think too long. Maybe an hour plus or minus depending on your effort and how aggressive the file is ...

i can thin your edge if you dont want to do it by hand plus put a scarry sharp edge on at the same time. only take me a few minutes.:D

Richard, what do you use to thin the blade down? Now that i think about it i have access to a belt sander.... if thats what i should be using

Most any knifemaker here on the forums can re-grind the bevel for you if you ask around, but if you take the time with some files, sandpaper and some elbow grease you'll take more pride in it, and who knows....the knifemaking bug may bite you and it could lead to making your own knives.

Just a thought.

*edit*

Before taking your blade to a grinder of any kind, even a belt sander used for making knives, practice on a scrap piece of steel and get to know the tool a little bit first.

You could ruin your blade in a hurry, and more ways than one with machines. I'd suggest taking the time and using the files and sandpaper.
