Hello folks. I just sold off a bunch of my trad. equipment and so have a few extra bucks around. Bottom line is this. I have decided on the MOD Tempest as my edc knife. Just fits my hand like a glove. I have a Carnivore comming which is a knife I have always wanted too.

So I want to buy one more and only one more for the year  It is a toss up between two frame locks for me. The Camillus Dominator or a Sebenza. Which should it be fellas. Ok lay it on me now, I am waiting. Everything good and bad about both and which represents the best bang for the buck. Oh yea maybe a SOCOM m/a full size PE would be nice too. Well maybe one more knife this year after one of the two frame locks.

Ok I am standing by. Mmmhm just waiting. Oops gotta press submit :D

well, i wouldn't carry a Sebenza if SD were a factor at all. it'd be the Dominator in that case. everyday usage, a Sebbie, but consider that you might be inclined to be more protective of a Sebenza over the Dominator, due to price difference. if neither of those are a consideration, i'd get the Sebenza.

If you're buying it just to have another nice knife, get the Sebenza. If you're looking for a knife to fit a particular niche, for a specific purpose, or range of uses, what would that be?

Just to have I guess. Maybe use on ocassion but mostly just to have. Like I said I am partial to the Tempest alot and have used the one I rec. before a Xmas a ton. So probably going with the Sebbie, although maybe I will for a M/A SOCOM pe. Who knows. thanks for advice folks much appreciated. keepem sharp

i avoided getting a sebenza for a long time. finally picked one up and its all its cracked up to be. go for it.

The Dominator is a great knife and a decent substitute for a Sebenza if you can't swing the Sebbies cost, but it is no Sebenza. Get the Sebenza, you won't regret it.

I have a manual SOCOM Elite, an elegant knife, got it about the same time as my first Sebenza, and it just can't compete. It never got much carry.

I realize I am about to speak heresy, but let me offer a minority opinion...

The Sebenza is a fine design made from high-end materials with what is probably the best quality control in the industry. That does not make it the best knife available, at least not for everyone, and definitely not for me.

My main problem is with the Sebenza's ergonomics. The handle is pretty much a box. The scales have very little radius to them and those edges do dig in when you hold on tight. The grip is not really shaped to fit the human hand. There is only a slight indentation to keep your hand from slipping up or down along it, not nearly enough to make me feel secure. There are no swells to fit the palm. There are no guards, hooks, or indentations to hold the fingers. A great many other knives on the market, including the Dominator, provide a far more secure, and comfortable, grip.

For general utility the Sebenza's grip is adequate, but I want something better than adequate. And if we're talking about self-defense or other high-stress tasks I definitely want a more secure grip on my knife.

The Dominator has a very similar feature set to the Sebenza, but it offers a much better grip and what I consider to be a more versatile blade geometry. I think it can do more, with greater safety, and in greater comfort. Cost aside, I think the Dominator is a better knife.

Your chances of getting a less-than-perfect Dominator are far higher, but they are still quite low. And if you do, Camillus has proven they are willing to make it right. If avoiding that possibility is your overriding concern than the Sebenza makes more sense.

I bought a Sebenza, liked it, carried it for several months, and eventually sold it to buy a custom. I have never regretted that decision and I really don't want another one. I still own, and sometimes carry, a Dominator.

I was concerned that I might start a firestorm, but I did not expect to kill the discussion.

Sorry 'bout that.
