Hey everybody, i just sold a gun of mine and now have $500 to spend, poor me right? so what would you guys suggest? ive always wanted a sebenza after reading story after story about them being the greatest thing on this planet, but are there any customs i could afford? i want the blade to be 3.5" or less, I dont like huge knives in my pockets. Thanks guys!

Lot's of nice customs that are less than $500 (including mine!) for sale in the for sale area. What are you looking for? Liner, framelock, handle material, blade shape, etc? The Sebenza is a great knife, I've had several and you can't go wrong with one. That said though, you can always get a Sebenza, they are not going anywhere. On the other hand if you see a special custom that really gets you excited, it may be very hard to find a similiar one again.....

If you've always wanted a Sebenza , then get it. But you can also find some good deals on custom made knives.

Kirby Lambert, Mike Obenauf and Brian Tighe ( off the top of my head) all make knives that sell for around $500. ( more or less). I paid $450 for a Brian Tighe framelock....

I've also noticed the Yuna hard series are in that range too.

I do like brian tighe stuff a lot. Im looking more for a titanium framelock. blade shape isnt too important, except tanto, i hate tanto. what is a good site to see customs for sale? thanks guys!

Well... you guys are going to hate me for this but... why don't you just keep those $500 untill you see something that really like instead of burning them right here and now? That could happen today, tomorrow or... never. You never know when that cash may come handy!
I am not into customs neither into such priced production knives... so I can't give you any better advice!
Mikel

PD: Whatever you do, let us know!

While I love the looks of the Yuna hard series, and have only heard quality things about his workmanship lately. I doubt that is the style of shooterpunk. I fully admit that I may be wrong in this but my guess is he likes simpler less flashy designs. The sebenza is a good choice, and even though I have wanted one for a while it would not be my first choice. I would be looking for a smaller hinderer folder. Something like the flash with a 3" blade. If you can find one then it should be right in your price range.

If you want to use the money on a knife, then a Sebenza would be an outstanding choice. A big advantage, IMHO, the Sebenza is Chris Reeve's outstanding customer service.
You can use the Sebenza and have CRK refurb it for a modest price and have virtually a new Sebenza once again. And, the Sebenza is an outstanding knife.

SEBENZA!!!

And if you really want a custom, check out Kirby Lambert or Greg Lightfoot, they make nice folders in your price range.

I'd try to get my hands on a Rock Lobster or a Rebel, both made by Jens Anso. Sweeeeeeeeet.

I would by a Bradley Alias I or II......maybe even a small Sebenza and keep save the remainder.

You could get a nice custom Obenauf framelock as well.

If you like the 'traditional' Buck 110, consider a Buck Custom Shop order. They had teardrop Damascus and I got one with that blade, NS bolsters, flaming Koa wood scales, etc, for $170 delivered. Add a few bucks and you can have water buffalo or stag scales - even with your name on it. I also got Fiji orangewood scaled, NS bolster, BG-42 bladed one for $84 - the beauty is that you'll have a bundle left to put towards another custom knife - or a gun - and you'll have a great conversation piece you won't be afraid to use. Imagine how you'd feel if your Sebenza was lost - or broken... consider the gun you sold to purchase it!

A fly in the expensive knife ointment? Perhaps!

Stainz

PS consider starting a Bark River Collection - you could get three or more nice ones for that... (I did that Christmas - and don't regret it.)

PPS In the end, satisfy your wants & desires...

With all due respect to the Tighe addicts here, I had one of his Custom titanium handled folders (a damascus bladed Breaker) and to be completely honest I wasn't very happy with it. The knife was so light that it felt like a toy and it was nowhere as smooth opening as a knife as expensive as this one was ($750.00) the large Sebenza I bought afterwards has just the right weight and is smooth as silk. I have nothing against Tighe knives in particular but I will say that at least in my opinion the Sebenza is a far better knife even if you spend a little more and get one of the inlayed ones or Unique graphic ones with a Damascus blade. I am so much more satisfied with the Sebenzas, It's just my opinion though.

Get yourself a RJ Martin. They are one of the smoothest and fastest knives out there.

Also, Les Voorhies (great flippers), and Kirby Lambert(his style's nice!) are all in this range.

Great makers.

For that much, get a good custom.
