Like a number of other people I've started practicing knots, making fobs, etc. I strip the core strands out first, but what do I do now with a whole pile of 10 ft strands?

Maybe I soulda bought the cheapo cord without the inner strands?

Sometimes I just throw it out, but I usually keep a bunch around to use as string. Its very strong and great to have around just incase you need it. Other than that I cant find much to do with it either....any suggestions are welcome.

If you can make a hammock out of cat5, you should be able to make it out of those strands.

I was thinking about that you know how long and tedious that would be?

Instead of braiding you may try to twist them and make some cord, I have made twisted cord from thread and yarn using one of these battery operated gadgets.

It can be done by hand or with a home made spindle, it's easy with short lengths up to say 6 feet or so.

You may also try finger loop braiding.

Edited to add a picture: a couple of homemade spindles and some finger loop braids.

So far, Ive just coiled up the paracord inners for use on a "rainy day", but I wonder if any of the guys from the survival forum would use em to make a gill net? Im led to believe gill nets are quite difficult to buy, at least in the UK.
Whatdya think?
