Well, a friend gave me his delica knock off for a tip fixing, and the cheepo plastic fell appart. Anyhow, the blade is mine to keep It is a CE blade, and I am wondering what to do with it. I was thinking maybe a spear of some sort just for fun but i really have no idea. How about making my own handle? I wouldnt know where to start but i think it would be fun. Any ideas or further advice on the ideas i have presented would be appreciated.

ps the blade is just chinese stainless but i figure i could do something with it.

Let me know if you figure out anything to do with it, I have a Buck Lite blade sitting around somewhere with no handle. :)

I have a sebenza blade without the handle. I purchased soem Micarta and intend to make some handles for it. You could consider buying some rivet or screw sets from knifekits and doing something like that.

Find some steel tubing like electrical conduit that can fit the base of the blade. It is better if the tube is narrow and you need to flatten it somewhat to get the blade to fit. Drill a cross hole to approximately match the pivot hole in the blade. Run a screw through the tube holes and the pivot hole and secure it with a couple of nuts. The blade is probably not strong enough to survive as a spear, but if you cut the tube length to about 20 inches you will make a very interesting long-handled knife. Take it out and hack at brush and things. It is amazing what a thin knife blade with a long heavy handle can do.

Don't under estimate some of the Chinese steels. They sometimes use some good stuff in their knives depending on the knife and the company.

You can check out my own personal carry Salt 1 and the upgrade I did to it here if this interests you. http://spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14971

I'm not trying to get business. I don't really need the work but I have done upgrades for people before. I am just offering this link to help you maybe save a busted knife by giving you some ideas as to how you can do it yourself if it interests you. PM me or email me and we'll talk if you need more info. Or you could go to my homepage in my profile and see some of the ideas and tutorials there that are pretty good also.

Hope that helps some.

str, i saw that, and my compliments on an excelent job. Well done. However, i would not put that much time and money into a crap blade, if i did something like that i would do it properly. Besides, I intend this to be more of an afternoon type of project. or at least involving a much lower level of craftsmanship.

Hey, I understand. You'd be surprised what you can do with some old aluminum fan blades and some brass pins though. You could even over lay the handles with some cheap wood or some type of man made material. Just some food for thought.

All three of these knives pictured below were cheapy Taiwan made knives that I bought broken in one way or another for a buck each or so. I found an old aluminum fan blade in a dumpster and simply recycled it to make liners for these knife blades. Each of these took about an afternoon to complete and were done with the minimalist attitude of a back yard mechanic wanting a beater knife. For pins on the body other than the pivot I either used some brass rod I had laying around or I made my own from heavy gauge copper wire. It is kind of funny that the stainless pivot pin in each of these cost me more than I paid for the knives.

My neighbor and my future brother in law have been carrying two of these and using them as daily beater uppers for years. So, I guess the aluminum and copper was a success. I had some reservations about using those materials but it certainly outlasted the cheap plastic FRN clone type material they came with from where ever they were made. I know they aren' t pretty, these are from years ago but you can get the idea.

Oh, and thanks for the compliments on my Salt 1. Much appreciated.

Put it in your wallet!
Can be really handy to have a sharp blade, even if it's a little tricky to hold, with you at all times. Plus you can put your wallet in the little tray for the metal detector, so you'll still have a small knife at museums amusement parks, etc.

EDIT: Airports = BAD typically. I haven't flown in a while, but word on the street is if you try to smuggle a flexible straw onto a plane they'll send you to a Siberian prison.

At any rate, it's still nioe to have a knife in your wallet. I often only take a wallet somewhere where I don't have a my keychain knife, EDC knife on me, so I carry a razor blade in there b/c it's low profile and handy now and then.

Airports + knives = Bad Idea, (Post 9/11.)
you can try, but you could be detained. They would confiscate it at the very least.
